I stumbled over deciding what to share with this contest post. Sure I could have shared one of the many gardening and homesteading items I've purchased. Perhaps the new laptop I got a few years ago. Or even the 23-quart pressure canner. But there was one thing... one living thing we purchased last year that has won my heart over. She has become a mainstay in our lives here on the homestead. She makes us all smile, laugh and feel a little silly at times.

Wanting to help with some chores late last summer.

From day one she has been my shadow; following me from room to room as I do my chores. She loves playing outside and running circles around me as I gardened last year.

She's very curious and has her nose in everything I do.

My days on the homestead can become monotonous (especially during the winter months when I am confined indoors) and having this little gal around brightens my days.

Some of her antics just make me roll my eyes, laugh or smile.

It's truly amazing how much life this little gal (Lexi) has brought into our home.

Many people told us when we first got Lexi that we were foolish. Getting a puppy is like having a toddler. Your life is over. You can't go anywhere. You'll need someone tot watch her; And on and on...

But let me tell you...

Our life is still the same. She was housebroken within a few days. She LOVES going into her crate (a sense of security and comfort perhaps) when we have to leave the house. And she is finally getting used to going for rides in the truck when we take the girls out for a quick drive or errand.

Even our older girl (Lady) has grown accustomed to having this wild child around. They play together. Tug-of-War seems to be their favorite game. And Lady even has been teaching her the ways of the world.

Lexi has been skittish (as all puppies can be) when it comes to other dogs and people within her view. But good ol' Lady has been displaying a mentor training of barking at strangers and voicing her fear; or protective personality.

Having made the decision to bring Lexi into our homestead fold has been the best purchasing decision we've made in years. She brings joy to us, is helping to keep us active (going for walks and playing catch) as well as giving us someone new to love and give a grand life to.
