Art Tips for Beginners - The Importance of Fundamentals

in #art6 years ago

Hello My Fellows !

Many of you always come to me to ask me the same question over and over again... How you got there? How to start? What kind of underpants are you wearing of exercise do you do?

Well, not to say that I am a little bit tired of answering always the same question. This answer has its foundations. And precisely that s the answer itself: Foundations.

See, when you start as an artist you are like a baby, you don't know a thing.

You may be very talented (which may be the best you can bring without any sort of previous study, practice or theory), but that is the best of the possible scenarios. Yet if you are very talented, you will still lack of skill. Because you cannot be born with skill but rather build it along the years.

Skill is something that you build daily, hourly. Skill is, like any other skill such as reading skill, something that can be learned. There is no magic on that, therefor, being an artist and being specially a good artist has nothing to do with magic.

It is directly related to hard work and hard work only.

And hard work can be very complex to define. This is why I want to talk about something called Fundamentals.

Fundamentals are the foundations of the art itself. Is everything what allows you to make a good and needed base to make later on pretty. It is not the act of making something pretty itself but rather the tools that allow you to make something look just right.

My first and final advice to all of you guys and girls who ask me "how to get there", is to buy, if you can, a book called How to Draw, by Scott Robertson. And if you can't buy it but you have an internet connection, you can find a free pdf in different places. Although please consider buying it to support this great master.

How to draw will explain to you how to get started into the drawing itself, the fundamental pillar of arts that will allow you to build whatever your mind brings and to start incorporating design into your work, even tho' that's for the end.

How to draw will also take you through different exercises that will teach you how to make your own homework and how to think in terms of art, which is exactly what you are or at least should be looking for at this point as a beginner.

Let me make this clear...we all been beginners at some point. And if I have to show you my very first works then I will. So don t get offended if me or someone else sends you to study the foundations of arts. It means than that person actually cares for you, and wants to see you grow.

Good luck my fellow artists.

I always try to listen to the ideas of my fellow followers to improve my posts and to give something back to the community... therefor: What would you like the next posts to be about? What should I talk about? What kind of painting? Would you like some tutorials about arts, about cooking? Maybe some fresh gaming broadcast? I would love to know!

I apologize if I don't reply to your message. Sometimes I can't find enough time for it. But you can be sure that I will read it!

Bye!

Wow, you are talented! Upvoted and followed!!

Amazing post

Some very sound advice @anritco - My mom is an artist and she teaches art as well, so I can relate to what you are saying as well as the process she has to go through with her students.

Great post! I've started with digital drawing myself a couple of months ago and I honestly feel like I'm getting better every day! It's tough in the beginning, but everyone starts there and to become as good as you are, there's a lot of exercise needed! I've also gotten the book recommendation before, but haven't had the chance to buy it yet - will definitely do that too :)

I shouldn't say this, but if you don't have the resources to acquire it... just find a free version pdf of it, totally worthy =)

I'm way off from even the "from this" drawing....yikes

Really helpful tips. Thanks

Wao amazing art and very easy to understand
