Silent Princess Collaboration Header

Last month I shared with you my fan art drawing of Princess Zelda as seen in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I described some of the steps I took from initial sketch to finished illustration. However, today I will share with you the same drawing but colored by another artist. Her name is Flora Rose and she goes by Raven Momoka.

The Original Line Art

For a few years now, I have been saving my artwork in five different files, for each stage of production (wire frame, sketch, line art, flat colors, final version). I sent Flora my line art drawing in the original resolution, which is 15" x 20" at 600 dpi. That comes to 6600px by 10200px. Did I mention that my Wacom Mobilstudio Pro has a display screen with a 4K resolution? Yeah, I love working with large canvases. It allows me to draw and color with anti-aliasing turned off. I can use the paint bucket tool with pixel perfection and the finished image is nice and crystal clear.

The Finished Illustration (Colored by Raven Momoka)

I met Flora Rose in person while cosplaying at her art show at the Cafe 116 in Ashland, Oregon. The first thing I noticed when seeing her artwork was how vibrant and colorful everything is. It's was very different from the de-saturated tones that I normally color with. I love how warm her skin tones are and how lively and fresh the environment looks. The difference between my version and hers is like comparing day and night (no pun intended).

This isn't the first time Flora and I have collaborated together. A few weeks ago I shared a drawing of Wonder Woman that she illustrated, and I provided the colors. I love doing this because it's good practice using other artists' assets and experimenting with new coloring styles. Plus, I love promoting other artists, especially young and emerging talent. Did I mention Flora Rose is a high school student? I can see a bright future for her career as an artist.
