Long time I did not write anymore here, I'm sorry .. Because 8 days back I was off work leave. I tried to get out of my work zone to travel to some areas on the island of Java. And often I'm interested in visiting the location of historic buildings in every area that I visited. And you know? 1. Church of the Church "Immanuel" Malang.

Drawing on top of this is one of the church located at the intersection of the square of Malang City in the north makes the location of GPIB Immanuel strategic enough. Its location is one row with Jami 'Mosque Malang City, Jiwasraya insurance office, and branch office of Bank Mandiri Malang. Established since 1861, GPIB Immanuel became the oldest church in Malang.

To renovate this church requires permission from the Government of Malang City, because GPIB Immanuel is one of the protected cultural heritage. Not surprisingly, the architecture inside and outside the church is still the same as the churches of Christians in the days of Dutch colonial past. In it, there is only the seat of the congregation and the pulpit. This church has undergone several renovations, among them in 1912 and 2005 ago. The place of worship of Christians is still firmly established until now and able to serve about 1,200 congregation who always crowded this place of worship every week.

In addition, GPIB Immanuel also keeps two ancient Bible that are nearly 400 years old. The ancient bibles were neatly stored in a cabinet inside the church. The Bible that has the 1618 print year is still intact and legible. The two Bibles have leather covers and are fitted with iron and front cover hooks. It is said that the weight of each Bible is almost five kilograms and has a thickness of about ten centimeters.

GPIB Immanuel was inaugurated July 30, 1861 under the name Protestanche Gemente te Malang. Its development is based on the formation of Protestant congregation in Malang at that time. The street where this Protestant church building stood was called Kulon No. Square. 9. Since 1948, the name Immanuel GPIB began to be used by the church.

This church was originally used as a place of worship of the Dutch and other Europeans who are Protestant Christians. The church building is also used as a place of service for the Dutch, Dutch pastors and also religious teachers from the Netherlands. These Dutch pastors and administrators also used Dutch in their worship.

A historical record says, in 1912 this church was once dismantled, but then rebuilt in the same form as it stands firmly to this day. Because the shape is considered too simple, when rebuilt it, this Protestant church was made with the concept of the Gothic church. The front yard of this church at that time was still quite large and was dominated by greenery. Along with the rapid development of the city of Malang and its location in the center of the city at that time, the front yard of this church was narrowed.

The more people who became bumiputera Dutch soldiers (KNIL), then founded a half-gedek church building in Klojen Lor. 10 Malang. This church is special for bumiputera people and their families who want to worship. However, pastors and administrators (assemblies) are still held by the Dutch. At that time there were two church assemblies, the Dutch Church Council and the Malay Council of Churches. The new Malay Council of Churches was recognized by a government church official (Kerkbestuur) on 18 September 1938. Meanwhile, the Dutch Church Council established a permanent building to replace a half-built building in Klojen Lor. 10. Church called Christ. Inh. Militair Tehui, Huize "Ora et Labora" was inaugurated on October 31, 1940.

The GPIB Immanuel building served as a place of Christian Spiritual Society when it broke out in World War II. Meanwhile, during the occupation of the Japanese invaders, this church building was used as a rice warehouse. The citizens of the congregation had been uprooted in that period. On December 3, 1948 all the property of the Dutch congregation was handed over to GPIB Jemaat Malang, including the Christian Orphanage (now PAK Kampar), based on the Indonesian Staatsblad of 1948. 305 of 3 December 1948 on the establishment of GPIB as a stand-alone church and as a legal entity. Since then, pastors and church officials have been held by Indonesians and members of their congregations of various ethnic groups in Indonesia. GPIB Immanuel Malang became the 36th congregation in the Protestant Church in western Indonesia.

In 1950, the half-timed church building in Klojen Lor. 10 (now Jl. Pattimura No. 10) was again used as a place of worship with the name Ebed Gereja GPM Immanuel Church Malang. This church is included in the Service Sector area 9. In that same year, GPIB Immanuel Malang congregation was designated as the parent church of the congregations in Residency Malang, Besuki and Kediri.

Over the course of time, GPIB Immanuel Malang congregation has various kinds of associations, such as the Christian Mother Association in Malang, Christian youth organizations, the Indonesian Christian Student Movement and so on. At the beginning of the institutionalization, GPIB Immanuel's service area covered almost all of Malang. After 1984, based on the official website of this church, the division of territory and institutionalization GPIB Jemaat Sejahtera Malang so that the service area to 15 sectors. In 2002, there was another division of waiter and institutionalization of GPIB Jemaat Getsemani Malang 2002 so GPIB Jemaat Immanuel Malang consisted of nine service sectors. GPIB Jemaat Immanuel Malang is also registered at the Regional Office of Religious Affairs of East Java Province based on the Letter No.Kw.13.7 / B.A.01.1 / 01318/2009 dated June 15, 2009.

The GPIB Immanuel building underwent renovations in certain parts, without altering its original historic building structure. At first, the church building became one with the Office of the Assembly of GPIB Congregation of Immanuel Church of Malang. Then renovations and additional buildings were made to the Assembly Office at the back of the church building and the transfer of the function of the Assembly Office on the second floor became Pastori in 1991. Prior to that, the Prijanto Immanuel Priest's GPIB had also existed at Jalan Gondosuli no. 3 Malang, since 1980.
