Bridges of St. Petersburg. Lion Bridge.
Lion Bridge is another pedestrian bridge across the Griboedov Canal, distinguished for its originality and beauty. The bridge received its name thanks to four figures of cast-iron lions by the sculptor Pavel Petrovich Sokolov, who was the author of sculptures and on the Bank Bridge.
The author of the bridge construction project was the German engineer Wilhelm von Tretter. As I told you, the project was developed together with the Bank Bridge project https://steemit.com/art/@megamax/bridges-of-st-petersburg-bank-bridge and was also approved in 1825. Four lions were also cast from cast iron, but at another plant, in contrast to the sculptures for the Bank Bridge. But both bridges were opened almost simultaneously in the summer of 1826.
In 1948, according to the design of engineer Yanovsky, the bridge was reconstructed.
In 1999 - 2000, the bridge was overhauled, as well as the restoration of the sculptures of lions.
The width of the bridge is 2.28 meters, the length of the bridge is 22.44 meters.
Thank you for your time and attention to my stories. I'm waiting for you on excursions around St. Petersburg again.
These lions look cool out there :) And according to the number of years this bridge is well preserved. :)
These bridges are the main attraction of the city. And they are located in the very center of St. Petersburg, where day and night life does not stop. Perhaps this is why these architectural monuments are under special supervision and control.
Cool... One day I go and look :)
