Painted Portrait of My Sister
My sister, Asia standing with the oil painting that I painted of her for Christmas.
With this reference photo I had enough information to work out the values and colors in the language of painting.
I started with a charcoal sketch getting the approximate outlines of her features down on the canvas.
Next I went in with burnt umber and titanium white acrylics to quickly lay down the general values.
I used a combination of prussian blue, manganese violet, iron oxide red and golden barok red to paint the background a la prima, then rubbed away abstract forms with a que tip. I did the skin tones of the face a la prima in genuine naples yellow dark, alizarin crimson, golden barok red, titanium white, burnt sienna, indian yellow, van dijk brown and earth green.
