Original Art Photography Series by @velimir #171 'Decision'

The name of this art photograph is: 'Decision'

When I was starting my filmmaking career, I worked as a freelance fashion photographer. Well, I was assisting most of the time but the guy I worked for sometimes let me take a few rolls to build up my portfolio. I always knew that films were my main direction but also accepted that I love photography. I never liked the fashion world. The whole process of agencies, clients, art directors, copyrighters and so on always struck me as too superficial and to me, it appeared like a suckup scene full of ego trips beyond measure.

However, the fashion photography as such, without all the rest that comes along is quite cool. Honestly, I don't consider it art, as such but must also admit that there are fashion photographers who cross the border of commercial message filled with sex and enter the subliminal sphere of art category.

I wrote all this because the location of the above photo would fit nicely for a fashion photography shoot. It is a very interesting place with high tonality range and emphasized structure. I would use front flash for the model if I was to do fashion and try to light the background with as much sidelight as possible. As this is no fashion photography, we have a mysterious silhouette of a female figure with a red glow on her hair.

The glow works perfectly with a few reddish "light leaks" which were added to interact with the orange door, enriching the atmosphere. The contrast range between outside and "inside" is a total keeper. Notice that the darkest details of the scene are preserved, everything is above the low-density range, except the woman who is deliberately left as a dark silhouette. As this is NOT a fashion photograph, I am at liberty to do this and further add to her mystery. Why is she standing there right at the border of shadow and light? Is she afraid to come out to the light? Does she want to do this? Is she deciding something?

The blue and green colours are not enough to diminish the warm, welcoming tone of this scene but they definitely do their part in making the colour scheme full. The green ivy, behind the figure, emphasizes the red glow on her hair and a few yellow spots on the floor break a large grey area with much success.

Enjoy! :)

Very nice photography and location. I love your approach to life, there are things that are not as deep as they portray them to be. Superficial jobs everywhere. :)
Hello all, from inspiration from @velimir post and him talking about "light leaks"
I need recommendation from those who are into farming or have knowledge about it.
About Light leaks: How dark does it have to be during "lights off"?
I know thats a different approach to @velimir light leaks.
Does anyone here know if it has to be 100% pitch black? Or does it matter if there are a few light leaks making the room a tiny bit brighter as long as no light shines directly on the plants?
I ask because right now my cousins setup is crap and she is meant to go away for the night and wont be back for 30 hours or so, and must leave the tent open AND the bedroom door open, and there are light leaks all over the hallway where the door to the grow tent is.

I'm in the minority here but I have had completely light sealed rooms and rooms that were riddled with light leaks. Herms have always been a bigger problem in the better sealed rooms. It seems like every little bit of light always upset the plants in rooms that were better sealed. The room I'm in now has uncovered led's and leaks all over the place. I've had one herm in 5 years. More sealed rooms that had a door opened At the wrong time or similar problem would throw hella nuts. But to your case in particular, if they don't have any leaks now hitting them with a weekend of leaks might throw them over the edge. Just my two pennies on light leaks.

I meant the red "light leaks" which used to happen in old analogue cameras. I added them on the sides of the frame manually to get more balance in the photo ;)

Yeah. I saw them. Thank you. You were talking about light leaks, so i too had a question on another kind of light leak :)
This time from a "farmer's perspective"
I appreciate the clarification

Another excellent article

Hey @velimir, I never knew that you are a photographer. The photo that you shared is itself about a piece of art but the way it's taken is also something very artistic. Just like you, Me too dislike the superficiality of the fashion world. I actually have sympathies for them because the lives of models in particular are not easy that's why many of them become addicted to drugs. At least that is what I have read in different articles and watched in movies. Anyway, you should share your artwork more often and it would be safe because you have posted this warning here... :)

Nice post. Steem On!

oh yes, I studied cinematography and you cannot do this without photography :) Thank you for your nice comment!

you have a great taste to create really fashionable photos.
The angle is chosen perfectly for such a place, the attention is focused not only on the girl, but also on the surrounding environment.
Reddish spots really create some balance with the door in the background and make the photo more harmonious.
Your photos are always nice to watch, and smart people who visit your blog are spontaneous to learn by yourself.
Thank you

Hey man, you got a good eye. Thank you! :)

Very fascinating this shot, intrinsic mystery!

yes it is! :)

Very nice picture ! But yes, fashion photographic world is a something very specific. But from a technic point of view, it can also bring a lot of knowledge to apply on other project ! Maybe I should consider it :p

Anyway, nice pic, nice text, nice post !

Love the photo and the rest of the post. I can actually find even some tip for me. :) Yeah, there is a loong voyage to become this cool. :)

Visualization helps in taking the perfect photo.

Yes, it does. It is all about that, really. Same thing with moving pictures. If you cannot see it before you do it...better don't start even :D
