The Power of the Tiger – My 3×3 ft Dot Work Acrylic Painting
Wildlife art has always inspired me, especially animals that represent strength and authority in nature. The tiger is one of those creatures that carries a natural power in its eyes and presence. When I started working on this piece, my main idea was to capture that intense expression of a tiger in a different artistic style.
This artwork is a 3×3 feet acrylic painting, created completely with dot work technique. Instead of using traditional brush strokes, I used the back tip of a pen to place thousands of tiny dots across the canvas. It was a slow and very detailed process, but that is what gives the painting its texture and depth.
At the beginning, I stretched the canvas carefully on a wooden frame so that the surface would remain tight and smooth. After that, I applied a rough base coat (primer layer) to prepare the canvas. Once the base layer dried, I painted the entire background in black to create a strong contrast for the tiger's face.
After preparing the background, I drew the tiger sketch lightly on the canvas. Then the real work started. Using the back tip of a pen, I slowly built the image with thousands of dots using acrylic colors. Each dot was placed carefully to create shadows, highlights, and fur texture. This technique takes patience because every small area requires many dots to form the final shape.
The most important part for me was the tiger’s eyes and mouth because they show the true spirit of the animal. I wanted the viewer to feel the intensity and power of the tiger just by looking at its face.
This piece took many hours of focused work, but the result is very satisfying for me. Dot work painting is challenging, yet it creates a unique visual effect that normal brush strokes cannot easily achieve.
I hope you like this artwork and feel the strength and energy of the tiger through this piece.
