SILENT HAWK – ISSUE 7: PAGE 1 PROCESS(From Outline to Final Art)
Hello guys, hope you're having a nice day! 😊
As I mentioned in my previous post, I wasn't supposed to end Issue 6 exactly where I left it — but it's okay, I was rushing a bit too and my breaks were getting longer as I grew bored😅
This here is the first page of Issue 7, showing an arrival at Epe Girls School gate (senior and junior high). Originally, this panel was meant to follow the previous scene, but I've decided to make it the official opening of the new issue instead.
Let me walk you through the full process — from outline to final shadows.
PART 1: THE OUTLINE
📐 PERSPECTIVE FIRST
For this scene, I used a two-point perspective with the radial ruler tool in Ibis Paint. This helped me establish the school building's structure and the road leading to the entrance and even the vehicle.
The rulers are a lifesaver when you want clean lines without losing that hand-drawn feel.
Tool used: Radial Ruler + Felt Pen (Hard) from the brush menu.
🚗 BREAKING DOWN THE CAR
The vehicle was a bit trickier. I started with a rough sketch — just a simple cuboid shape to establish the basic form and proportions. From there, I built up the framework layer by layer until I had a solid structure I could trace over.
Once the framework felt right, I traced the final outlines using the same Felt Pen (Hard) brush.
📏 DIMENSIONS
I worked at 720x720 px — not my usual size, but I realized that going bigger was limiting me from using some functions in Ibis Paint properly. Sometimes you just have to adjust your tools to fit your workflow😁
PART 2: THE COLORING
🎨 THE COLOR STRUGGLE IS REAL
Bucket painting is usually the easy part for me — quick, satisfying, fills everything nicely. But this time I hit a small wall: I couldn't remember the exact colors I used in previous episodes.
I usually save my colors in Ibis Paint's color menu, but... I didn't this time. 😅 Big mistake.
So what did I do?
I had to rely on memory — and since Epe Girls School is a real-life location, I tried to recall how the actual place looks. But then I checked back at an older episode and realized something: I had already changed the school's view before. That meant I didn't need to stress about matching perfectly.
Moral of the story? Consistency is great, but don't let it slow you down. I went ahead with colors that were almost similar to the previous episode, and honestly, it works.
🚗 FROM SKELETON TO ACTUAL CAR
Remember that cuboid skeleton? Well, it was time to make it actually look like a car (It's a car but I wanted a color variation and oops car don't have skeletons 😂😂).
I focused on:
· Giving the body more defined curves
· Adding surface details to make it recognizable
· Making the body panels look a bit shinier
Once the car felt more "car-like," I moved on to the other elements in the scene.
PART 3: SHADOWS & FINAL TOUCHES
✍️ BRINGING IT TO LIFE
Even after coloring, everything still felt a bit... flat. You know that feeling when something looks complete but doesn't quite pop? That's where shadows come in.
🚗 THE CAR
I studied the light source (implied from somewhere above and slightly left) and added shadows accordingly:
· Under the car chassis
· Along the door panels
· Inside the wheel wells
· Where the windscreen meets the body
The surface was meant to be a bit shinier, so I kept the highlights crisp and shadows more contrasted.
🏫 THE SCHOOL BUILDING
For the school, I focused on:
· Window depth — darker tones inside
· Wall textures — subtle shadows along brick lines
· Gate details — making the entrance feel solid
The two-point perspective from Part 1 really paid off here. Because the foundation was solid, adding shadows was just about following the light logic.
BACKGROUND ELEMENTS
surroundings got softer, lighter shadows — enough to suggest form without competing with the foreground. This creates depth of field, making the car and gate the clear focal points.
🔍 FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
A few last touches:
· Darkened some lines that got lost during coloring although I made a mistake of taking the outline of the car behind and it got lost when I closed the app.( Undo can't work during this circumstance)
· Added a subtle glow to the headlights
· Checked overall contrast

Epe Girls Senior and Junior High School. Screech!!! The arrival has begun. 🚗💨
