Hello my fellow art lovers, i am here with a work of art i just finished this morning after waking up from sleep. This was a drawing I had in mind before sleeping yesterday, and seeing that i am able to actualize it on paper gives me goosebumps lol 😂
It’s just a simple random sketch of an African woman in her colorful head tie and with her stylish glasses. I was able to achieve this drawing within 3hours of drawing and sketching and the basic materials I used are my charcoal pencil and crayon on an A4paper.

Progress work

The first stage is obviously the simplest to do, even a little child will be able to draw lines to make up sketches, this was where I brought out my idea.

I started by giving my sketch some highlights using hatching method, the reason I do this is so as to get a direction when I decide to add my colors to my sketch.

At this stage I started with the head tie, it’s one of the most important part I needed to concentrate on because of the depth and style it carries, I had to make different lines contours and adjustment at every interval while I apply my crayon.

Same procedure followed to the fore head of my subject.

Final rendering

Drawing with crayon is a bit complex than you think, crayon is made of wax and when you scrub it on a paper it tend to stick to the paper harder than you can imagine, so it involves a technical approach to it than other forms of medium. I really had a great time completing this piece and I hope you all will like it.
