Portrait Male - soft pastels fun & struggles

in ᴀʀᴛ & ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛꜱ11 days ago (edited)

Since the paintress will be operated I try to practise more at home. A fact is I still run out of time, which indeed is my own fault. If it comes to it, I don't own ayone my time.

I started early (not planned I was on my way to the bathoom).

I once said I would not make portraits of women since everyone does. So if... male only.

Sketching took way too much time and I find it hard. While I tried I thought about painting, but ended up with the soft pastels I borrowed. In a way it feels easier, but it took me way more time as expected (6+ hours).

In between I talked with my brother who tried to travel to Aceh to find his wife and children and finished pimping two items from yesterday's workshop.

At times it's better to know when to stop so I gave up on the ugly sketch and added the pastels. Damn orange again. I don't like that colour.

You have to rub it in, the teacher said. I tried a brush but it didn't work. Only option left for now are my fingers.
Limiting the colours might be helpful and using one finger per colour to avoid washing hands often. It might also be wiser to start at the top to not wipe out what just has been coloured, which I didn't and can't.

By the way, I don't blow the crumbs of pastels off the paper, but hold it at it's side.

If you look closely you will notice I made changes till I decided to give up. I had it with it and decided to use the old hairspray. For a moment I was shocked, because it looked as if the crayons became too wet and the painting changed completely.

It's not what I wanted, but let's say it's original and I learned something. On ro the next guy.

I love it...
Analogue art -one thing AI won't steal from us, right... Or who knows, everything's possible.

You should frame it and hang it on the wall :)
Have a great creative day ahead! (and a week too) ;)

I saw AI controls huge 3D printer building houses laying concrete. Perhaps manual art is also endangered, we are about to see.

The world will never be the same again, I suspect... :)

Right. It is like a river, it looks the same but never is.

STEEM to the Moon!

Truthful words of wisdom! :)
I hope STEEM flies there... sooner :)

I like to keep my walls as empty as possible. I will ask the teacher if she likes to frame it. She says hher walls are too empty.

AI is not as good as people think. It makes many mistakes and it misses a soul. Right now they alreafy know that not even the average intelligence is posdible and teaching it with the help of language modules is by far not enough.

What AI does generate is a stupid generation. 😕

I don't decorate the wall either but I'd pretty much like to put some of my photos. I am not sure what's the reason I haven't done this so far :) I always want more from my photos and many times I don't find them artistic enough.

Funny thing, I've participated in many photographic exhibitions but my few solo ones... only portraits.

I did that years ago (it feels like a different life, about 30 years ago), everywhere photos... today I like more peace of mind. White walls help me think and rest.

I like the video, it reminds me of my Bulgarian friend (mother and son, both theatre directors.) I took great photos of a theatre play directed by the son in Switzerland. The entire play was done by one single actore and his performance (read: expression) were amazing! After all those years, I still see that guy's face.

A super creative day/week

I think your painting is fantastic. And now that I think about it, it's true, it's been years since I've painted with crayons, but it's a unique feeling. It's like rubbing a candle on the paper, and the strokes are usually thick. I suppose it must be a challenge to start painting with pastels.

But it will always, always be an experience. A form of expression, and believe me, that's priceless.

I love it when you're creative.
P.S. Write to me; it's always a pleasure to chat.
