Hello everyone. Today we came with another topic .What is an asteroid belt in my previous blog ,i gave some information related to asteroids, Today i am going to share some information about asteroid belts !!

What is an asteroid belt:-
An asteroid belt is an region between the mars and the jupiter where most of the asteroid revolve around the sun by making a formation of belt.

This is an example of asteroid revolving with each other.

HOW ASTEROID BELT FORMED:-
According to the astronomers the asteroid are formed by explosion of a big planet. The name of the hypothetical planet was Phaeton.
But according to the research these asteroid revolving around the sun are kind of planets which are never formed. These asteroid made up of cosmic dust formed through the process of accretion. Accretion is the process of attracting solid objects and forming a big solid structure. Some of the asteroids become planets also. But the main asteroid belt between the mars and jupiter didn't allow the asteroids to become a planet instead they collide and fragmented . Due to this we see the asteroid belt between these two planets.

WHAT MAKES AN ASTEROID BELT:-
Asteroid belt are formed with different type of asteroids like C-type and other different types . The large amount of asteroid are of small size only 30 asteroids are there is the belt with more than 200 KM in diametre. The largest asteroid in the belt is Ceres with 940 KM in diametre , Vesta with 525 KM in diametre , Pallas with 510 KM in diametre and Hygia with 410 KM in diametre. these four celestial bodies cover almost half of the mass of the entire asteroid belt . Ceres is also know as the Drawf planet due to this vesta become the largest asteroid in the belt. Ceres is the only asteroid in the belt which is large enough to mantain a spherical shape.
