We've noticed this old abandoned house on past walks, but we've never gone up to it to investigate. Inspired by @customnature's Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest #aswcontest and @lyndsaybowes' ever-encouraging #walkwithme posts, we decided to combine the two and get outside to explore our neck of the woods...

So take a Walk with us as we venture off the homestead on foot, into creekbeds and pastures to see what this old abandoned homestead has in store...

We take the back way, going through the creekbeds.

The waters are up after some nice rains and snow melt.

We make it to the old abandoned homestead and who do we see? Our dogs (who were off running around in nearby fields)!!

The Old Abandoned House

It has so many old, natural, local elements. All of the stonework foundation was hand done with local stones (something we see often in old homes around here). The coolest part though was when we looked inside and saw vestiges of old newspaper wallpaper.

The old house has so many interesting facets and the light was playing just right.

I especially loved this local river stone added into the stonework...

I love the look of old weathered wood. You can see that this wood is still very strong - not your average wood you can buy today at the lumber store, this is likely locally milled old growth oak. This house has withstood the test of time and the beatings of weather very well.

We take another way home, over the fields toward our very-much-alive homestead...

We love our vistas of the rolling Ozark hills.

At the barbed wire fencing, we spot the hair of our pyrenees, a sign this is one of his escape routes.

We dip under the fence and are back in our forest once again.
