Ah that's awesome! I've been to southern California a handful of times, but still haven't made it down to San Diego. I live in San Jose, and I've heard San Diego has a similar vibe. Most of the people I've met who grew up in San Jose seem to dislike it here, but I honestly love San Jose a lot.
I grew up in the Bitterroot Valley, a little bit south of Missoula! I absolutely love the mountains and accessibility to amazing nature in Montana, but to be honest, I feel the most socially comfortable living in the Bay Area. I love my Montana roots, but sometimes I feel like I grew up in San Jose haha.
