He said, "Parliament membership is not profitable. That is why they will be able to campaign for the candidates in the city corporation elections. The Election Commission has approved the amendment. "
In his explanation, the secretary said, "They do not hold any office, do not use government cars, buy and use them." And no government officials are involved with them. "
Helaluddin said the commission has proposed to bring 11 different amendments in the City Corporation Code of Conduct, which will be sent to the Ministry of Law on Tuesday.
The EC secretary said the finalization of the Gazipur City Corporation election schedule was finalized, due to the final amendment in the election.
He said, "It is open for all MPs, not a particular city corporation but it is open. The restrictions were lifted from them because they were not profitable.
"But to be a candidate for the election of the city, the existing member of parliament will have to resign as per the existing law."
Responding to a question, he said the ruling Awami League is also the EC stakeholder. The decision of the amendment has been taken by reviewing their proposals.
The EC secretary said, "In this case, the members of the parliament will not be able to use dakbungalow during the vote."
In the face of ruling Awami League's demand, the Election Commission reverted to amend the Code of Conduct for Local Government Elections.
Regarding this Code of Conduct, the law will not need to be raised. At the end of the law ministry's meeting, the EC can make a final gazette.
