SLC33-W1 |The Real Video Vlogging Adventure Challenge,E2|
Hello Everyone I Am @alihassan4 From #Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Why did you choose this place for your video vlog, and what makes it special or unique?
The reason I chose this location for my blog is that it features one of the oldest canals, known as the Shyamasundari Canal. A notable aspect of its history is that in 1890, the then-ruler Janaki Ballabh named the canal after his mother, Shyama Sundari. It was originally constructed to facilitate water drainage at a time when the local population was suffering from diseases such as dysentery, diarrhea, and cholera.

What are the main attractions, activities, or historical and cultural features of this location?
In 1890, Janaki Ballabh Sen—the Raja of Dimla and the first Mayor of the then Rangpur Municipality—excavated this artificial canal, known as the Shyama Sundari Canal. He named it after his mother, Shyama Sundari Devi, who had passed away by drowning, in order to preserve her memory. The canal stretches for approximately 15 to 16 kilometers, originating from the upper reaches of the Ghagot River. It flows through the heart of Rangpur city, traversing 15 of its wards. The canal plays a significant role in regulating the city's temperature and facilitating the drainage of groundwater.

What was your personal experience while visiting this place, and what did you enjoy the most?
I was deeply captivated while traveling along this canal, as it flows through a picturesque, open natural setting. My journey took me towards the Sal forest area; it felt as though the city lay on one side of the canal and the village on the other. The canal seemed to flow on, fulfilling its course with a sense of serene purpose. I spotted a fisherman casting his net there; the sight of him fishing amidst the natural beauty of the afternoon was truly enchanting.

What advice or tips would you give to visitors who plan to visit this place in the future?
For those wishing to visit the Shyama Sundari Canal in Rangpur city, it is worth noting at the outset that the canal in its current state is far from being a manicured lake or park. Due to the accumulation of vast amounts of municipal waste, the canal has become a source of a pervasive, foul odor. However, rather than attempting to traverse the entire 16-kilometer stretch, it is better to focus on specific key sections. For instance, visiting the point where it originates from the Ghaghat River near CO Bazar offers a great opportunity to truly appreciate the nature of the waterway.

This particular Shyama Sundari canal is very beautiful to look at and I am very happy to see its water flowing fast. Moreover, it is clean. I am very happy to see the importance of this particular canal to protect 15 villages. We all have to work together to widen and clean all these canals. Thank you very much for sharing the rural environment, green grass, trees and the attractive visual backdrop of the Ghagat river. I certainly wish you success here and will consider visiting this particular place when I go to Rangpur. InshaAllah, we will meet there.
