For the majority of Acehnese people—particularly men coffee shops serve as gathering spots for relaxation and for resolving a wide range of issues, spanning everything from work and social matters to politics. These shops are far more than just places to savor a cup of coffee. One such establishment in the heart of Lhokseumawe City a place once nicknamed "Petro Dollar" is Doha Kupi. It is located on Jalan Baiturrahman, directly across from the Baiturrahman Mosque.

Doha Kupi serves a specialty drink that is immensely popular among the Acehnese: Kopi Boh Manok Weng. Literally translating to whisked-egg coffee, this traditional Acehnese beverage is made by blending hot Robusta coffee with free-range chicken egg yolk, whisked until the mixture becomes thick and creamy. The drink is believed to restore stamina and maintain physical fitness. Although Doha Kupi is not particularly large, it is clean and features a neat arrangement of tables and chairs. Its clientele is diverse, ranging from office workers and university students to the general public. Most customers visit specifically to enjoy the shop's signature drink, Kopi Boh Manok Weng.

Doha Kupi looks much like any ordinary coffee shop far from being aesthetic. It features both indoor and outdoor seating areas to accommodate customers. The outdoor section feels more natural and cooler, thanks to the presence of several trees. This morning, after dropping off little Raffa at daycare, I headed into the city center to run some errands. I decided to make a quick stop at Doha Kupi to relax and enjoy a cup of black coffee. The place was bustling with morning customers enjoying their drinks. Beyond kopi boh manok weng (egg coffee), Doha Kupi offers a variety of other beverages, including black coffee, sanger, espresso, iced sweet tea, hot tea, teh tarik, Milo, and various other refreshing drinks.

The prices for various drinks at this coffee shop are comparable to those at other similar establishments. For my order a kopi hitam pancung (a small serving of black coffee) I paid IDR 5,000, or the equivalent of 6.97 Steem. Doha Kupi opens daily, inviting customers to enjoy a refreshing and pleasant experience. With its comfortable atmosphere and accessible location, it is an ideal spot to take a break from the daily grind. Beyond the signature kopi boh manok weng (coffee with egg yolk), the shop also offers another unique specialty: Teh Hijau Boh Manok Weng (green tea with egg yolk). This drink offers a distinctive flavor profile, blending the smoothness of green tea with a unique aroma and taste.

To ensure customer comfort, the shop is equipped with various amenities. Visitors have access to free, high-speed Wi-Fi, making it easy to settle in and stay a while. At the back, there is a prayer room and a clean albeit somewhat compact restroom. I found the service to be quite good during my visit this morning, and the black coffee was perfectly suited to my taste. Motorcycle parking is ample and convenient, so customers need not worry. Those arriving by car also have no cause for concern, as the area is free from heavy traffic.
