Finally, the Snow We Waited For
This whole year has been dry overall. There was very little rain during the spring season, which otherwise used to be quite wet. People then started waiting for some relief in the summer season, but that too turned out to be only hope. Again, some precipitation was anticipated in the autumn season, which could have provided relief from the prolonged dry spell and also helped with natural irrigation of agricultural and horticultural fields, on which people are largely dependent. Still, there was no significant precipitation, just a few occasions of light rainfall.
The long dry spell had negative impacts on fruits, particularly the apple crop. Apples arrived earlier than the usual part of the season. Earlier, the entire bulk of horticultural produce used to be sent to the market together, which had a bad impact on prices as well. Farmers could not get the desired returns and, at this point in time, many have been in debt for years.
Once again, we waited for some precipitation and relief in the winter season, which usually starts by the end of October, but there was still no relief. Eventually, on this day—23rd January 2026—precipitation arrived in the form of heavy snow, which not only covered the whole valley in a blanket but also turned it into a winter wonderland. People are happy, no matter what challenges this snow may have brought with it, because it is something we had been desperately waiting for, and now it is finally here.
Our valley is famous for its snowfall, and even towards the end of winter it was missing, which had stripped it of its charm. At this moment, with the snowfall having occurred, that charm has returned. No doubt, various basic necessities of life have been affected, but the snow has come with the beauty and allure for which the valley is known.
It was a happy morning for me. When I woke up and looked outside, around 30 cm of snow had already accumulated, and it felt like time to be spent outdoors, enjoying what we have done since childhood. No doubt, snow always comes with tasks like removing it and making pathways in and around the house premises, and it is a challenge for the authorities as well because snow removal is not an easy process. Still, people do not worry about it. It is something we love, and this love is unconditional.
Eventually, the snow is here, and we have an opportunity to enjoy it. The snowfall is still continuing as I write this post. I am standing outside my house, writing and watching the snow fall.
Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
