Haijan Branwar: The Vast Serene Meadows of Kashmir

Haijan Branwar is a vast green plain surrounded by towering pine trees and gently rolling terrain. Located just behind Branwar village, it acts as a buffer zone between the forest and the rural area. These vast Meadows are about 30–35 km from Srinagar city and around 25 km from Srinagar Airport, making them easily accessible for people living in and around Srinagar.

The meadows are an ideal destination for hot summer afternoons, as the pleasant breeze flowing through the plains provides relief from the scorching heat. The river Doodh Ganga passes through the area, adding to its scenic beauty. The gushing sound of the river creates a natural melody, making it a favorite spot for nature lovers seeking peace and solitude. Unlike other tourist destinations in the valley, Haijan Branwar offers serenity with very few people around and vast open spaces.

Locals from nearby villages often bring their cattle to graze in these meadows, adding a natural charm to the landscape. The river has also formed small islands along its course, which have become attractions in themselves. One unique feature of Haijan Branwar is the absence of a concrete road leading directly to the meadows; visitors park their vehicles at the base and walk about 1 km on foot. This makes it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude and a connection with nature.

Another notable feature is the presence of large khanday pipes that carry water to a nearby hydroelectric power station. While these pipes slightly affect the meadows’ appearance, they add a distinctive charm, as visitors often climb them to take photographs. The pipes also carry very cold water, providing a refreshing spot to cool down during summer.

Haijan Branwar also serves as a base camp for trekkers, offering several trekking routes to different areas. One popular trail heads toward Yousmarg, a famous tourist destination in the valley, and follows the banks of the Doodh Ganga River, making the trek even more memorable. In fact, Haijan Branwar is a complete package—it has plains, a river, trekking routes, and surrounding hills—which makes it a truly worthwhile destination to feature on platforms like Steem-Atlas.

This place is also beautiful in the winter, when snowfall turns the meadows into a white blanket, creating a true winter wonderland. I hope that in the coming years, the government will pay more attention to this area and organize winter games here. This would help Haijan Branwar appear on the tourism map, allowing more visitors to witness its beauty. Since the valley attracts tourists throughout the year, this place deserves to be highlighted so people can experience nature in its pristine form.

Haijan Branwar is located in the Budgam district, the central district of the Kashmir Valley, making it accessible from most parts of the valley. Mobile network coverage is available in most areas, though some spots remain untouched by signals—perfect for anyone wanting to stay away from distractions. Many people enjoy spending hot afternoons camping in the meadows, and I plan to do the same next year, Inshallah.
