Sixty Dome Mosque - Bagerhat District

Dear friends, I hope everyone is doing well. I am Alhamdulillah doing very well by the endless mercy of Allah. Today, I will talk to you about a place that is a traditional site of Bangladesh. This place is called the Sixty Dome Mosque, located near Bagerhat town in Bagerhat district. Many people visit this place as a heritage site. It was established in the 15th century.

To enter this place, you must buy a ticket for 30 taka. With this ticket, you can go inside and see a lot of things. There’s a pond, and then there’s a museum, which I have covered separately in detail. But if you want to visit here, inside there’s a big area in one corner with a sixty-domed mosque. It looks really beautiful, and you have to enter through a gate that goes all around.

As you can see in the picture, I'm standing in front of the main gate, and you have to enter through this gate to go inside the Sixty Domes Mosque. I took the picture standing here and then went inside. Once you enter, the first thing you'll notice is the natural surroundings with green, lush paths. As you step in, you'll see a big mosque ahead, which has many domes. It's so beautiful that in the middle there's a straight path with natural greenery and trees on both sides, which makes it look even more beautiful.

When you walk a little further down that road, you'll see greenery all around, and you'll keep walking through it. You’ll notice a big mosque ahead, and it looks kind of like the color of bricks. Back then, everything looked like brick color, and they used to build big buildings. When you get a bit closer, you'll see that this mosque has many doors; as far as I know, there are about twenty doors here.

The area around the mosque is green and lush, looking very beautiful and clean because there are a lot of staff and officers who are engaged in this work. This is actually the place from the old times that Khan Jahan Ali built; he was the ruler here, and being able to visit such a traditional site is a fortune for me. So mainly, this is managed by the government, and those who work behind it receive a monthly salary. So I saw that the surroundings of the mosque look very beautiful.

You can enter Ershad Dome Mosque in two ways, though basically you enter in one way but can exit in two ways. After entering from the east side of the mosque, which is inside the park, you can enter through this main road or the main gate. But to exit, you have two options. On the east side of the mosque is the main road, meaning the main gate, and on the west side, there’s a small one you can use to exit.

So far, what I have presented to you is the outside part of the mosque. Now I have entered to participate inside. You can enter through any door. I told you at the beginning that there are about 20 doors around this mosque through which you can enter. I have entered for two reasons: to take photographs and to pray. Essentially, I will pray two rakats because if you come to such a traditional mosque, you can’t not pray two rakats. So, that's what happened.

The interior felt a bit untidy, but actually it’s not really untidy, just slightly less polished. Outside, everything is green, lush, and clean, but inside it’s not quite like that. However, it has its own unique charm. This is an old building, so it doesn’t have a proper internal electrical system; instead, they’ve brought power from outside and set up fans. Its internal setup isn’t like modern systems. Still, I found it unique; it feels like the older setups were much more beautiful, and it’s naturally quite cool inside.

All in all, I really liked the mosque, even though I have heard the name of this mosque since childhood and read about it in many books. So, seeing it in person was really nice. I will tell you all that you can come here. I have observed things carefully and shared some information with you so far, so you can come.

After that, from the city, whatever car or auto-rickshaw you take, just tell them you want to go to the Sixty Dome Mosque, and they will take you there directly.
