Map the Story #28 || A Joyful Weekend at City Palace, Udaipur
Hello friends,
Last Saturday, I stepped into the golden walls of City Palace in Udaipur, and the day turned into a perfect holiday. The palace, perched on the edge of Lake Pichola, welcomed me with its bright arches and cool breezes. I felt the history whispering through every stone, and my heart lifted with excitement.

The first stop was the Museum of Arms, where I saw shining swords and bright shields from the Mewar warriors. Each piece told a story of bravery, and I imagined the brave soldiers standing tall on the palace balconies, watching the sunrise over the lake.

Next, I wandered through the grand Durbar Hall, where the ceiling glitters like a sky full of stars. The marble columns, painted in soft pink and blue, made the room feel like a palace garden inside. I sat on a carved bench and let the cool air slip through the tall windows, feeling the lake’s reflection dance on the floor.

For lunch, I tried a local thali at a tiny café near the palace. The flavors of dal, sweet roti, and tangy pickle sang together, just like the colors of the palace walls. After eating, I climbed the steep steps to the rooftop terrace, where the view of Udaipur’s lakes and hills stretched far beyond the eye.

The evening ended with a boat ride on Lake Pichola, the palace lights sparkling on the water like fireflies. I sat back, listening to soft music from nearby musicians, and felt a deep peace settle over me. That weekend at City Palace reminded me how simple moments, bright colors, and quiet history can fill a heart with pure joy.

If you plan to visit Udaipur, I highly recommend spending a whole day inside City Palace. Arrive early to beat the crowds, wear comfortable shoes for the many stairs, and bring a camera to capture the intricate mirror work and the sunset over the lake.

The staff are friendly and often share stories that make each room feel alive. After the palace, explore the nearby markets for handmade jewellery and colourful fabrics – perfect souvenirs of a joyful weekend.
I left the palace feeling grateful, already dreaming of my next visit and happy today.
