SLC28 Week3 SteemitTTD - CityBuilder
Hello Steemians!
Hello to all OpenTTD fans — don’t forget to tell your friends about this wonderful game. Let them join the learning too.
I’m glad to welcome you to the third week of SLC28.
I will translate into English later.
- Let’s start the third week – this time we will look at how other players play and learn about the game type called CityBuilder.
This week I will not turn on my server, because there is no electricity for a long time.
So, we go into the online game 'Multiplayer' and type 'cityb'
CityBuilder is a mod or plugin for the game. You will not see it in single-player. There are different versions and settings of this mod. This type of game is available on three servers.
I recommend joining servers where players build big cities (4000–8000). Such servers can last for several hours.
A server with 1500–2000 is only about 2-3 hours (dest time - minutes). One player wins, the server restarts, and the whole map is cleared.
I joined the server n-ice.org #2
The server sends me private messages, and you can also give it some commands.
On the server players can chat. When you press ENTER, a line opens to send a message to one player or to many players. You can also send a command to the server – it starts with !
Now I see that one player created Libinho Transport, so I will watch him. I click the stations icon and I can see all the stations of this player.
At the start of the game, you should place your headquarters near a town with a certain number of people.
Choose a town, but never a city
As you can see, the player has only two stations and uses a train to move passengers from one city to another. This is very little and not effective.
Game start – grow town
At the start of the game, the player placed his headquarters and chose the town he will develop. This town is surrounded by a private area, so other players cannot build anything here.
I created a company and chose a town, then built my headquarters. The town had 1000 people.
On this server you must choose a town with at least 800 people – the server told me this.
In that case you need to move your headquarters to another town. I did not manage to do it, and my company was closed.
I created a new company, opened the list of towns, found one with less than 800 people, chose it, and placed my headquarters.
The server said that goods should be delivered to the town when it reaches 1500 people. But nobody stops you from preparing earlier and delivering before that. For growth, you need to transport passengers and mail, and after 1500 people you also need to deliver goods.
I made a mistake – I did not build stations and started building many roads. Now the town refuses to let me build stations. And I did not build a cargo station.

After some time the town allowed building, and now I built stations first, then roads.
And there is no limit to building only from town to town. You can also transport between different stations inside your own town.
As you see, I am carrying out the passenger transport plan, but you should not relax – this number will only keep growing
But with the mail I was in a hurry (because I have little time, I play and write the post) and I did not check if my station would accept mail. – It turned out it does not.
So I build a mail station closer to the city center and make sure the station accepts and sends mail.
The town started to accept mail, and meanwhile I am building the railway.

I choose a train that is cheap but not too slow.
I go into the game goals but see 0 residents, even though I already have 831 (I started with 668). The 0 is because the minimum is not reached.

Now the residents are 758, less than 800. But a minute ago it was 831 – this happens because of irregular changes. That is why at the beginning it is better to have many buses or trucks instead of one train. For this type of game, vehicles are better at first. Later, near the end of the game, trains become more effective.
Now it is time to build a second track, place signals, and start a second train."
Now it is time to build a second track, place signals, and start a second train.

As you can see, the rating (statistics) started to count – and soon I will catch up with the player.

I bought more wagons, so the train is now 4 tiles long, but the station is only 3. Because of this, the train waits a long time for loading and unloading. You can simply add extra tiles to the station (like on top), it is not necessary to destroy the small station and build a new one.
Soon the town will reach 1500 people, and for growth it will need goods. It is better to prepare in advance. I connect the sawmill to the existing road – pay attention to the connection.
To the forest I will build a tunnel (or a bridge, but I prefer tunnels)
As you can see, my town grew to 1880 people even without goods, and I even passed the other player. But for further growth, goods are necessary.

Without goods it still grows… while I was writing the post, the sawmill disappeared. There is another one on the map, but it is far away. So I will transport oil instead.

From now on the game becomes harder – I need to transport even more passengers, mail, and also goods
Task 1. (4 points) Join the server, for example n-ice.org #1 or #2 or #3.
The first task – only explore the players on the server. Look at their town, their transport. Because the server often restarts, this task can be done in several steps. First just connect and watch, next connection do task 1, next connection do task 2–3.
• How long the game has been running on the server (you can see this before connecting in the server list).
• Which players are playing, what are their results?
• Who do you think is experienced and who is not?
• Explore what they transport and with what vehicles. Who do you think will win this game?
• What new things did you see that you had not seen before?
Be careful: some player may reach the goal and the server will restart the game, all companies will disappear. If a player is close to finishing, wait for the restart and then start your own game. The answer to this task should be longer in your work
Task 2. (4 points) If the server has just restarted or started recently – create your company and begin playing. Do not try to win! The main thing is to play and describe the process.
I recommend (but you may have your own strategy):
• Buy 2–3 buses and 1 truck.
• If the town is long, build two stations far from each other.
• Transport passengers and mail inside one town.
• Gradually increase the number of stations and the amount of transport.
• etc.
Task 3. (2 points) Transport another type of cargo that the town needs for growth (goods).
At the same time you should also increase the transport of mail and passengers.
Do not forget that the town counts passenger transport inside one town (from one stop to another).
