Nusrat Jahan Mosque, Saidpur

Today I want to share my experience of visiting a mosque that I explored quite recently. It is a newly built mosque, and honestly, I did not know about such a beautiful mosque being constructed so close to our city. A few days before visiting, I noticed the mosque from the roadside, and its elegant structure immediately caught my attention. After that, I decided to visit it in person. So, let me tell you more about this mosque.

Location, Brief History, and Construction

Masjid-e-Nusrat Jahan is located in Saidpur Upazila of Nilphamari District. It is a newly constructed and visually impressive mosque, built to commemorate the centenary of Lajna Imaillah, an international women’s organization of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.

The mosque was officially inaugurated on 13 October 2023, which was quite surprising to me because I was completely unaware of it until recently. An interesting fact is that there is another mosque with the same name, Nusrat Jahan Mosque, located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

That mosque was inaugurated in 1967 and was the first mosque in Denmark. Similar to the Saidpur mosque, the Copenhagen mosque was also funded entirely by Ahmadiyya women and was named after Nusrat Jahan Begum.

Mosque Structure and Environment

A view of the mosque from the main road

The mosque looks very beautiful and elegant. When I first saw it from a distance, the structure seemed outstanding. From far away, the minarets were shining brightly and created a very eye-catching view. The mosque has three minarets, and as you get closer, their beauty becomes even more noticeable.

The main entrance to the mosque

The mosque area is surrounded by a boundary wall. The main entrance gate is still under construction, and once it is completed, the overall appearance of the mosque will look even more attractive. As I entered through the gate, I enjoyed a clear and beautiful view of the mosque.

Stairs to the mosque

There is a long and wide staircase leading up to the mosque. However, after entering through the main door, I was a bit surprised to see that the interior space is not as large as the exterior structure suggests. Still, the mosque is truly beautiful and well-designed. I believe that at night, with proper lighting, the mosque will look even more stunning.

Left minaret of the mosque

The main minaret of the mosque is located at the center, with the other two minarets positioned on either side. Although the walls of the mosque are white, the minarets are painted in a golden color. On a bright, sunny day, these golden minarets shine beautifully as they reflect the sunlight.

There are several tall vertical openings along the side walls of the mosque. The design clearly suggests an emphasis on natural ventilation and the flow of daylight into the interior stairways or corridors. Overall, I really liked the architectural design of the mosque. However, I felt that the surroundings would look even better if there were more trees or greenery around the mosque. Hopefully, landscaping will be added in the future to enhance the environment further.
