Last year, in December 2025, I visited Blang Padang with my kids, and it was such a meaningful experience. We spent time sitting and taking photos in front of the Dakota RI-001 Seulawah, enjoying the fresh air and the relaxed atmosphere around us. The kids looked happy and curious, while I took a moment to reflect on the story behind this plane. It felt simple, but special. This place is perfect for family time, and at the same time, it quietly teaches us about history.
Standing proudly in the middle of the field is the iconic Dakota RI-001 Seulawah, a symbol of struggle, sacrifice, and unity.
At first glance, it may look like just an old airplane on display. Kids were running around, people were taking photos, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and joyful. But behind that calm scene lies a powerful story. This aircraft represents one of the most important contributions from the people of Aceh to Indonesia. Back in 1948, when the country was still fighting to stand strong after independence, the people of Aceh donated their wealth gold, money, everything they could, to help purchase this very aircraft.
Being there in person hits differently. I watched my kids smiling, playing, and posing in front of the plane, and I couldn’t help but think about how this place connects generations. From struggle to peace, from sacrifice to happiness, everything feels complete in one frame.
The area itself is clean, spacious, and family-friendly. It’s perfect for a casual evening walk, a quick educational trip, or just spending quality time with loved ones. The iconic “BLANG PADANG” sign adds a modern touch, making it a great spot for photos while still preserving its historical value.
What I love the most is how this place quietly teaches us something important: freedom is never free. It was built by people who were willing to give everything they had.

The plane is placed on a high platform, making it easy to see from a distance. It feels big and powerful. Even though it does not fly anymore, it still tells a story. This plane is not just an object. It is a symbol of history and struggle. Many people come here to take pictures and learn about it. It reminds us of the past and the spirit of unity.
