Assalamu'alaikum my stemian friends, Nice to greet you again. Here I am joining the fifth week of Steemit Challenge Season 27. The theme of the this week is Bookstore, organized by @solaymann, the Steem Atlas team.
Yesterday, on my way home, my son asked me to buy islamic books Kifayatul mubtadin. I tried to find the bookstore on my way home.
Talking about bookstores is always interesting for me, because they’re totally different from cafes. In Lhokseumawe, bookstores are like rare gems, you can literally count them on one hand. As far as I know, there are only three bookstores in this city, while cafes? Nah, I’d give up counting them!
Maybe it’s because people here have become too smart , no need books anymore or maybe we just love our coffee more than reading, who knows?

One of those few bookstores is Rahmat Bookstore, a place that still keeps the reading spirit alive in town. It’s not a fancy modern bookstore like the ones you find in big cities, but it has its own charm. The shelves are full of Islamic Kitabs, textbooks, colouring books, novels, stationery, and even some hidden treasures if you take the time to look closely. When we talk about bookstores, it feels different from cafes. In Lhokseumawe, there are countless coffee shops, you can find them on almost every corner. But bookstores? You can count them on one hand. Maybe people are already smart enough, or maybe they just prefer screens to pages. I’m not sure, but that thought made me visit one of the few bookstores still standing strong ,Rahmat Bookstore.

A Brief History

1000383310.jpg

The bookstore has been around for several years and is part of the Rahmat Group, known for selling Islamic books and school materials. Although small and simple, it has become a go-to place for students, teachers, and parents who still believe that learning begins with reading a real book.
Previously, It was located on Jalan Pasar Buah. But a few years ago, the bookstore moved to its current location on Jalan Pase. The new spot is more strategic and easier to find, allowing more students and book lovers to visit and explore its collection.

The Employees

Employees and activities

Inside the store, there are only two people working, one cashier and one assistant who helps arrange the books and serve customers. Despite being a small team, their service is friendly and patient. When I asked about a specific book for my son, they immediately guided me to the right shelf.

Facilities and atmosphere

The store doesn’t have the aesthetic or air-conditioned atmosphere like a modern cafe.
It’s a simple, open-space room with neatly arranged wooden bookshelves filled with various titles. There’s no AC, but the air flows freely from the front door, and the place is clean and well-organized.
It might not look fancy, but it smells like knowledge, the kind of place that makes you want to stay and browse every shelf.

Me and my son

As a teacher who deeply cares about education, I truly hope that more entrepreneurs will start thinking about how to support the world of learning, not just by opening trendy cafes that make young people forget the value of knowledge.
Imagine if one day, in Lhokseumawe, we could find a modern bookstore with a cozy reading corner and a small coffee space, where people could enjoy their favorite books while drinking a cup of coffee. That would be a perfect combination, a place where ideas brew as beautifully as coffee does.
It’s quite ironic that we can’t even count how many cafes exist in this city, but there are only three bookstores, and all of them are just simple ones. Hopefully, one day, there will be more beautiful spaces that make the young generation of Aceh fall in love with books again..
