Glass Beach - Incredible result of human wastefulness and the resilience of nature.
There is a glass beach, that's famous for the iridescent sea glass that shimmers on its shore. It's the incredible result of human wastefulness and the resilience of nature.
MacKerricher State Park, Fort Bragg, California!
Abundant in sea glass created from years of dumping until the 1960's. Glass Beach underwent a massive clean up projects in the late 1990's.
Over time the pounding waves broke down the glass and pottery. Small, smooth and polished colored glass are now found on the shore with sun reflecting as the rainbow sands.
Its a fun place to explore, pick up glass, look for different colors and just enjoy the area.
But if you want to see it, GO NOW, because it will likely be gone before we know it.
It is prohibited to take glass but everyone is taking the glass and collecting it, so there's not as much as there use to be.
However if you go, keep your eyes peeled for the rare ruby reds. Pre-1967 car tail lights. Sapphire-colored glass are from apothecary bottles.
Also go at low tide as you can see much more.
There is also the Sea Glass Museum which has beautiful displays cases of every color and size of glass to be found they claim.
They also claim that there is plenty glass left on the shores as the ocean is constantly depositing more onto glass beach.
Will you be making the trip?
Similar beaches are found at Benicia California and Hanapepe Hawaii.
