A Rainy Day, Simple Food, and a Lot of Satisfaction

Since yesterday, rain has not stopped here. The sky has been grey, the air a little cold, and the streets around our area have stayed quiet. When rain continues like this, people mostly stay inside their homes. Honestly, I also didn’t feel like going anywhere. So today we decided to cook something simple at home — plain rice with lentils, a little chutney on top, and some fresh salad on the side.
Sometimes simple food feels much better than fancy dishes.
Today I cooked rice and prepared lentils. When the lentils were ready, I added them over the rice and then made a simple homemade chutney. The chutney was nothing special — just the kind we usually make in our homes, with simple ingredients — but the taste was amazing. On top of that, we sliced some cucumber and onions for salad. When everything was mixed together on the plate, it looked very traditional and very homely.
Maybe the weather also made it taste better.
Because when it is raining outside and you are sitting inside your home with warm food, it creates a different kind of feeling. I was sitting near the window while eating and watching the rain falling slowly. The sound of raindrops hitting the roof was actually very relaxing.
I remember when I was younger, rainy days were always special in our home. My mother used to cook simple meals like this — rice, lentils, and salad. At that time we didn’t think much about it, but now when I eat the same kind of food, it brings back those small memories.
Today felt a little like that.
Nothing fancy, nothing expensive, just homemade food and peaceful weather. Sometimes these small moments give more happiness than big plans.
The lentils were soft, the rice was warm, and the chutney added a little spicy flavor. When everything mixed together, it tasted really good. I ate slowly and enjoyed every bite.
Rain is still falling outside while I am writing this post. Maybe it will continue tomorrow as well. If it does, I might again prefer simple homemade food instead of going out.
Because honestly, food made at home, especially on a rainy day, has its own special taste.
