The Blessings of Today’s Fast – A Simple Iftar, A Deep Reflection
Today’s fast felt a little different. Maybe because the day was longer than usual, or maybe because I was more conscious of every passing hour. From Sehri till Maghrib, I kept reminding myself that fasting is not just about staying hungry. It is about patience… control… and gratitude.
As the evening got closer, the kitchen slowly filled with life. The samosas were being fried, pakoras turning golden, fruit chaat getting mixed with fresh apples, bananas, and watermelon. The smell of iftar preparations always hits differently when you have been fasting all day. It tests your patience one last time.
When the Adhan was called, that first sip of water felt like the biggest blessing in the world. It’s strange how something so simple becomes so powerful after a long fast. Dates, fruit chaat, crispy samosas with chutney — everything tasted better, not because it was special food, but because it came after sacrifice.
Today’s fast reminded me that we often take small blessings for granted. Food, water, comfort — they are everyday things, yet fasting makes us realize their true value. It also teaches discipline. When you can control your hunger and thirst for hours, you learn that you can control your anger, your words, and your desires too.
Roza softens the heart. It makes you think about those who live with hunger daily, not by choice but by circumstance. It builds empathy inside you. And honestly, that is one of the biggest lessons of Ramadan.
This simple iftar was not about fancy dishes. It was about togetherness, gratitude, and reflection. Another fast completed, another lesson learned.
