Wisdom and love in the Bible: I belong to my beloved, and his desire is for me. Song of Songs 7:10

The Song of Songs is a unique book in the Bible, and its authorship is attributed to Solomon. The Book is a text that celebrates in a poetic way the love of two lovers who long to be together and who, after several comings and goings, manage to achieve that union. The Book does not clearly specify who the lovers are, except that King Solomon is mentioned a few times in the song; nor does it specify the social status of the characters or the historical context. The Book is essentially a song dedicated to the purity of love, that is, love for love's sake.
This means that the book cannot be included in any category of the Bible; it is not a sapiential book, nor is it a book about the law or the prophets. Despite this, the Book has a meaning within the structure that is the Bible.
The Book of Proverbs, written by Solomon, before teaching its famous maxims, has a prologue, where a wisdom personified expresses itself in the first person, and with these words the Book of Proverbs teaches how this wisdom personified unites with the sensible men: "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me" Proverbs 8:17.
In this context, the Song of Songs can be understood as an idyllic love between Solomon and the science of God, and this is because the love of God, love understood as a gift, is the love projected onto all of God's work, the progressive, expansive, and edifying love. In other words, the Song of Songs can be understood as an expression of the love of a wise man, in this case Solomon, for wisdom, and how wisdom desires to unite with her devotee.
For example, there is a declaration of love in the Song of Songs about this possible idyllic relationship: "I belong to my beloved, and his desire is for me" Song of Songs 7:10. The Book, then, has among other purposes to show what love free from selfishness is like, and how this love can be related to the purest thing, in this case wisdom.
The Song of Songs can be thought of as a book complementary to the sapiential literature, such as the Book of Job or the Book of Ruth. And it seeks to creatively show the relationship between the purest and most perfect things, such as love, mercy, and wisdom.
