Acorn woodpecker (Melanerpes formicivorus)

This beautiful bird is easy to find in the high mountains of Costa Rica, easily recognizable by its beautiful colors and its strident song. They are not so shy birds so it is relatively easy to approach to take pictures.
They can be found looking for dry trees and branches, which they drill to store beyotas that they collect from oak trees
