Edge Wallet Review - Multi-asset wallet with Shapeshift exchange
Hello everyone!
Today, I am going to do a quick review of the newly released Edge Wallet. I will describe each of the features available and discuss my personal thoughts about the app.
The Edge Wallet is built by the same folks that created Airbitz. It has been available in a private beta for the last two months until this morning when I received an email notification of the official release.
Edge is a multi-asset wallet with a Shapeshift exchange built in. At release, you can receive, hold, spend, and exchange Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum (including Augur and Wings ERC20 tokens), Litecoin, and Dash. It is also possible to manually add other ERC20 tokens. This is one of the few mobile wallets that support Segwit addresses for both Bitcoin and Litecoin.
Selecting any of your coins shows you its wallet info. The "Request" button displays a QR code and the receiving address. You can copy the address to your clipboard or share the address via text or email. The "Send" button opens your camera, but also allows you the option to paste an address from the clipboard.
If you tap the upper-right button while on the main screen and select "Settings," you can change your password, add or alter your pin number, adjust your display currency, or even set up 2FA. Selecting any of your wallet currencies in the bottom brings you the choice to change your denomination (BTC, mBTC, bits, etc.).
The next few screenshots will show you the process of using the exchange. In this example, I exchanged 0.25 LTC for 0.0047 BTC. For your convenience, the value of each coin is displayed in your preferred fiat currency, Euros in this example. When you are ready to execute the exchange, slide from right to left.
It took less than 5 minutes for my bitcoins to arrive. The following screenshots show the coins arriving in my wallet. You can choose to label and add notes to each transaction, if you desire.
Personally, I like this wallet. It looks sleek, the exchange process is smooth, and Segwit is implemented. The only negatives I can find are minor. The keypad can sometimes get shaky when I first attempted to imput my User ID and password. This was present in the beta version as well so I hope the folks can soon fix that. Also the number pad would appear when there was nothing to type and I had to close the app and reopen to fix it. Again, those are only minor. Since this wallet was made as a successor to Airbitz, I would expect to see similar features such as the business directory also be implemented into Edge.
Have you tried this wallet? If so, discuss your experience in the comments below!
