¡World Alert! They detect new cyber attack of a Russian malware
The FBI detected a new cyber attack from Russia and issued a global alert. It is a malware that appropriates domestic routers to block traffic on the web, collect private information and even orchestrate massive attacks.
It could cut access to thousands of sites in the world, as happened after the DNS attack in late 2016.
The name given to this malware is VPNFilter and it is estimated that it has already affected at least 500 thousand routers in 54 countries, according to data from Cisco's Talos. The vulnerable devices are Kinskys, MikroTik, NETGEAR and TP-Link; as well as QNAP NAS storage systems. Here are some of the models that could be affected with VPNFilter:
Linksys E1200
Linksys E2500
Linksys WRVS4400N
Mikrotik RouterOS for Cloud Core Routers: Versions 1016, 1036, and 1072
Netgear DGN2200
Netgear R6400
Netgear R7000
Netgear R8000
Netgear WNR1000
Netgear WNR2000
QNAP TS251
QNAP TS439 Pro
Other QNAP NAS devices running QTS software
TP-Link R600VPN
It should be noted that these are just some models. That is, there could be other versions or manufacturers that could also be vulnerable to VPNFilter.
According to the researchers, it is highly destructive malware. If it continues to expand, it could destroy hundreds of thousands of devices as well as prevent access to almost any website in the world.
