The new segwit2x is completely different, can even be mined with ASAICs! I don't know why they would change the original one. I feel like it is a money grab and will be another useless fork.
I read somewhere that they even had said that they aren't going to compete with btc, which is completely dumb. It was supposed to replace btc!
