Flash News: Bitfinex US Accounts Have Been Frozen

Reports from yesterday seem to suggest that US verified accounts are frozen and unable to withdraw.
Is this still the case? Is Bitfinex doing this as a punishment for Synapse Pay not allowing their theft?
