I have to think at some point Proof of Work will win out...
Right now the planet is controlled by Proof of War...
Bitcoin runs on the proof of work protocol, while the planet runs on the proof of war protocol.
At some point I have to imagine enough people get upset at the way things are and move over to proof of work that the bitcoin standard ultimately takes over.
It's just a matter of how long that ultimately takes.

Sadly most people understand only what is "explained" to them via media who are "owned" by governments and war is a bloody good business for them
