Facebook shows more interest in Blockchain and names Evan Cheng as director of the area

Facebook, one of the most popular social networks today, has been showing more and more interest in the development of Blockchain. This is ratified by naming one of its senior engineers to hold a position of great importance linked to the underlying technology of digital currencies.

Facebook executives named Evan Cheng as "the first director of the Blockchain engineering area." These rumors were originally announced by the TechCrunch news portal, but were later confirmed by Facebook.

Cheng has already worked for Facebook for more than three years in the area of engineering for programming languages and project execution. Previously, he had worked for about 10 years with Apple and now he will lead the team responsible for research and developments related to Blockchain technology.

According to information published on Cheng's Twitter account, the engineer claims to have experience in the development of Crypto and Blockchain products and solutions, since he mentions these aspects within his area of knowledge.

Originally the social network announced plans to start exploring the Blockchain technology for the month of May 2018. The head of the Facebook Messenger platform, David Marcus, was the person responsible for shaping and leading the team that was going to dedicate to this homework.

Apparently Facebook is rethinking its position on cryptocurrencies and Blockchain technology, since the social networking giant originally banned all kinds of advertising associated with new digital currencies on the platform, but then has been incorporating new forms so that certain types of ads linked with cryptographic products can be advertised in the social network as of this month. However, within this possibility, pre-sale campaigns for new cryptocurrencies (ICO) are not allowed.

These new announcements make more and more popular the rumors that the social network plans to launch its own cryptocurrency at some point, which has not been denied by the directors of the social network, who claim that they are "exploring" these technologies .
