Yes Jaxx is a hot wallet. A hot wallet is a wallet where you do not store your own private keys and unless trust them to a central company, like blockchain, jaxx as you mentioned, and coinbase. Basically the only wallets which will work are hardware wallets or paper wallets with a few exceptions like armory and electrum.
