Why I hold altcoins and no longer hold bitcoin (btc)
There was a time when a friend told me about Bitcoin in 2012/2013. I didn't jump into it until it hit $1,200 the price the gold i recall. I waited for a dip and bought. Then I signed up with coinedup having TIPS (fedoracoin) and then Cryptsy - of which both sites are closed down.
I did have a few hundred thousand ripple that I lost since I kept the ripple on cryptsy and got so busy with work (software engineering consulting jobs).
I recall buying and selling dogecoin in 2013, and then GPU mining coins especially KanyeCoin for fun. Sadly I didn't get back fully into crypto until May of 2017.
I was buying BTC, ETH, NEO, EOS, QTUM, Omisego, TenX, NEM, Civic, Agrello and I had some Litecoin and Ripple from years back.
After seeing Bitcoin rise - I was very excited and to the point of selling all other coins except Ethereum. Now I fully regret that. The journey for me has changed a lot. I have a friend who has about 500 bitcoins and he makes big money with various ICO's. For me, the psychological barrier for people to invest into bitcoin btc, along with it being slow transactions and high fees and the enormous competition ... makes it not a wise investment for me at this time.
I read a lot of blogs, reddit, twitter, steemit, and I watch youtube channels and I decided that with the extreme competition that I have to (feel the need) to hold many coins.
I currently have positions in about 70 coins. While no Lambo for me with that diverse selection - I will most likely not be losing money by end of the 2018. I am hoping for some of the coins to 10x and then I sell off 50-90^ of a coin after evaluation of it and buying into new or different coins.
I'm in this for the long haul and not into day trading. I hope to start blogging a lot more and talk about my choices for holding various coins.
My 15 year old is taking a big interest in cryptocurrency, so that is exciting to me as it teaches about money, math, investment, behavioral psychology, economics, world history, world geography, politics and governments and some many things.
Cheers.
