OUTLIERS by MALCOLM GLADWELL Book Review

This is by far, the best book I read so far in the year 2017. What we think about success and successful people is that, only talented people with high IQ will find huge success in life. But this book by Malcolm Gladwell proves beyond doubt that the truth is far from that. I have read the book completely and here I have summarized the main points offered by Malcolm Gladwell.

1) The 10,000 hour work rule:

To gain complete mastery in any skill, you need to put 10,000 hours of deliberate practice. For example, if you want to be a good violinist, you need to practice playing violin for 10,000 hours. If you wish to be a good programmer, you need to practice coding for 10,000 hours.

2) Talent is Overrated:

If you are willing put deliberate effort in any field of study or work, you will get better at it with time. Don’t expect to be an expert overnight; but your skill will increase gradually. Only thing is that you should have an average IQ and a College Degree.

3) Some people are born at the right time:

There are cases where date of birth proves to be very critical. Both Steve Jobs are Bill Gates were born in the year 1955. As an implication when the technology boom started in the US, both of them were young enough to take part in it. On top of that, they gave their time and full effort to be successful. Bill Gates spent about 10 years coding, before he launched his software business; that is approximately 10,000 hours.

4) Practical Intelligence:

If you are people savvy, life becomes comparatively better for you. Social savvy or Practical Intelligence means knowing how to talk to people to get what you want, how to interact with others, how to convince people. Practical Intelligence is not an inborn talent; we learn it from our environment: from our parents and friends. We can easily teach such skills to children by example. For ourselves, we must read books or personally experience such situations.

These are four main points that I found in this book. I highly encourage everyone to buy this books; it is very well worth.
