Throwback Thursdays Video Games: Week #15 - Scooby-Doo! Mystery Mayhem (2003)
Keeping with some games from the Game Boy Advance, my favourite console as a child, I am looking at Scooby-Doo! Mystery Mayhem. I actually have quite vivid memories of this game due to a corruption that happened with my game cartridge. After owning the game for a little while the save function got corrupted, meaning that if I wanted to play the game I would have to play from start to finish without turning off my GBA.
The game itself is a 2D side-scroller like many other games for this console. You could progress through to each section by entering elevators and doors to help you find clues throughout the game.
Throughout the game you are able to find tools and keys that will help you to progress to other areas. The game is very reliant on you exploring as much of the levels as you can in order to find what you need to continue, sometimes this can be a bit frustrating if you’re spending a long time looking for the items you need.
Ghosts are scattered through the four stories in the game, trying to hinder you from progressing. An item called the Tome of Doom would allow you to get rid of them. The four stories throughout the game are all interconnected and make up one bigger story.
Some parts of the would vary from the usual walking around and exploring and put you in vehicles like a trolley as shown above. These you couldn’t control in terms of speed and would have to dodge all the obstacles in your way, testing your reactions.
Scooby-Doo! Mystery Mayhem is a game full of mystery and an engaging storyline that you would expect to see from a Scooby-Doo game. This game can be played on an emulator but be warned that it is illegal to do so if you do not own a copy of the game. Otherwise, you can purchase a physical copy of the game to play.
