When the Open Road is Calling - But the Mechanic is Not...
So, we were supposed to be hitting the road today in our motor home. But, alas, it seems the mechanic wants to spend a bit more quality time with her 😝
We took her in for an out of province safety inspection almost 3 weeks ago now. The inspection should take 3 hours!! We knew it would take a bit longer because she needed a few things but 3 weeks?? We've heard all the excuses. Low on staff, migraine, hernia, bad back, suppliers letting them down. The list gets longer each time we call.
Anyways, it's seeming a little more positive now. The finishing touches are a new windshield, new tyres and a new stamp on the propane tank. Once those things are done, we should be able to legally drive her on the road.
We've half packed up our apartment and we're hoping the landlords are OK with us staying a few more days. If not, we'll be moving into the RV in the mechanics parking lot. That might get them moving. Let's hope it doesn't come to that though because we still need to get the toilet, shower, fridge, lights, oven, everything hooked up.
I'm trying to stay positive about the whole thing but I'm really itching to get on the road. Plus Ben's brother is visiting from Australia and this delay has eaten 3 weeks out of his holiday. Poor thing has been stuck at a closed ski resort with nothing to look at but black snow. At least the emerging marmots are cute to watch.
But instead of dwelling on the negatives, we've put together a somewhat smaller version of our “must sees" while we're hightailing it around the US.
Doable in 3 weeks? Who knows but we'll give it a red hot go!
Beautiful landscape!
Ah the Rockies. I think it's from somewhere up near Jasper. I can't remember now 😜
Oh totally, you got that.
Hope the mechanic gets it wrapped up soon.
Let me know if you swing through vegas, Assuming Ben's brother is 21 I'll buy him a beer. This lets me put "Ambassador to Australia" on my resume. It's win/win.
Oh me too. We dropped in today and things are looking up. Hopefully all is finished by tomorrow. I think the mention of us living out the front moved him along a bit.
Haha love it! Supporting the Aussies. I told him and he said in his thick Aussie accent "Oh yeah that sounds alright". I think he's stoked that he's got a beer waiting in Vegas for him 👌
This is gonna be all kinds of awesome to follow!!
Ah thanks lady. I feel exactly the same about your blog. Let's do this 🤙
I wish you a very happy trip full or exciting new experiences. Please come back with plenty of good stories and pictures!
Drive safe! 🚌
Thank you! And I will. Plenty of stories and photos to come. I'm hoping to do a couple of posts a week, but we'll see. Cheers legend
Ooh!
Taking the scenic coastal rout, good choice.
Oregon has got some beautiful viewpoints, the coastline through that area is amazing, even from the road. The redwood forest is also pretty cool, we did the classic tourist thing and drove through a carved out tree, it was actually kinda neat.
You're in for a wonderful trip and I can't wait to see what you show us! Pack extra camera batteries! And memory, and...awww jeeze, jealous.
Fun fact: when standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon it still doesn't look real. That's how astounding it is in person.
Cheers,
Speck.
Thanks Speck! I'm really looking forward to it. We did a similar trip a couple years back but Ben's brother hasn't been to the US at all so I'm pretty excited for him. And isn't that true about the Grand Canyon. I was actually saying that exact thing a few days ago. I remember it taking quite some time to sink on. The enormity of that place is insane.
And I'll definitely need to pick up another camera battery. I take tooooo many photos 😀
Wow! What a trip..
