A love that was not meant to be
Here is a true life story for us all to learn from. Names have been changed to protect the privacy of those involved. Read enjoy and most importantly, learn.
Sola met his wife Toyin many years ago just after she had graduated from secondary school. In terms of career, Sola made it quite early in life, he came from a family of influential politicians. It was a case of love at first sight for him. Toyin was everything he ever dreamed of in the opposite sex plus more. She is fair in complexion, tall and her face reminds one of sex doll. She is also busty, that's the icing on the cake for Sola. He was 28 when he met her, she was just 18. He asked her out on a date, and as things would turn out, that was the beginning of their journey in life together. How will this journey end for the two of them? Will there be a winner or would a loser emerge? Besides must we always have winners and losers in this game called love? Let's find out.
Soon after the lovers first meeting. A lot was clear to Sola. Though Toyin has the body of a goddess she had come from a family of paupers. It took an excruciating effort from all the members of her family to sponsor her secondary education. Upon graduation, her family wanted her to learn a trade and give back financial support to the family. ''Am not done yet,'' she constantly told herself. Sola was determined to do whatever it takes to make his goddess of a girlfriend happy. He will damn right send her to Harvard if it comes to that.
Their relationship was a match made in heaven, on a Valentine's day, with angels singing and blowing their trumpet to Celindion's my heart will go on. Things got intimate rapidly. Sola was a man who could not wait to eat his cake even when he knew it is yummie. Their first night wasn't magical, during sex Sola realised she wasn't a virgin even at 18. But that wasn't his concern. Marrying a virgin is like employing a driver who can't drive a car, he laughed within. He couldn't help noticing her hesitation and reluctance. After he was done going up and down. He looked into her eyes with a gaze filled with questions rather than satisfaction. She got the message, she massaged his hair and explained to him that she doesn't want to have sex till she is through with her education. Sola agreed without a moment of hesitation. After all, there's no point in rushing to finish a cake that is actually his.
Toyin's O' level result came out in flying colours. She was the best graduating student of her set. Her Jamb result was also exceptional. The only thing that could have stopped her university education was money. Sola had that in abundance.
Fast forward to 4 years, Toyin was a 300 level student at the University of Ibadan. She was the cynosure of all eyes. Though Sola had been faithful to her, he always had this dream of her being snatched from his arms by someone he didn't know. This was his recurring nightmare. His friends would tease him that he has wasted a fortune educating a poor girl who would eventually leave him when she found true love on campus. To prevent his night mares from becoming a disastrous reality he would constantly visit Toyin on campus. He never entered her hostel for fears of things he might see or hear about her. On this particular occasion, Sola was done with his fears, ''I would determine my future,'' he said to himself. He drove to the University of Ibadan Queens Hall of residence like a soldier on a mission. He had called to tell her he would spend the night with her in an hotel outside campus, she didn't object.
That night at the hotel was the best in Sola's memory. They made love all night. This time around he was surprised at the way her body responded to his. Unlike the first time, this time she took him in as if her body was made for his. No wonder in 4 months time when Toyin called to say she was pregnant, Sola beamed with a smile and said to himself 'mission completed.'
Within 6 months a society wedding was organised, it was one of its kind in the country. The wedding was attended by prominent politicians, state governors and all the crème de la crème of the society.
As a saying goes, after wedding comes marriage. Fast forward to 3 years from the wedding. The couple has a handsome son and Toyin had just completed her National Youth Service. Sola used his influence to get her a job with chevron one of the top oil companies in the country. Without a doubt everyone of Toyin's friends envied her because her life is indeed a bed of roses. She is married to a highly successful husband, she works for a top oil company and she is of course blessed with a cute son. The question is what else could anyone ask for?
Fourteen years into the marriage, Sola had forgotten his nightmares. He is an accomplished politician and a family man he thought until a dreadful day when his nightmares stared right at him once again. He had left his lovely wife at home that day, his son has gone to spend his holidays with his uncle in London. He drove out of his Victoria Island mansion beaming with smiles. He was to attend a meeting with the Lagos State Governor. On getting to the third mainland bridge he realized he has forgotten his iPhone 7 at home. He felt like hitting himself in the face. He did a quick detour. In 30 minutes time he got back home, packed his Mercedes G Wagon in front of the compound as he rushed into his house. He was surprised the main gate was open but this is not the time to complain. On getting to the main building the door was also left open. For a moment fear gripped him, ''is there a problem?" he asked himself as he rushed into the living room. On getting into is living room his feet stopped abruptly as if he was under a diabolic spell. He was transfixed at the spot. His eyes wide open, so was his mouth. It took a while before his wife realized he has been standing there for a whole minute. To Sola it seems he had stood there all his life. Time stood still, the living room suddenly began to suffocate him. He quietly went back to his car. It took him 5 minutes to figure out how to drive a car he parked less than 5 minutes ago.
He drove slowly to his friend Soji's house to narrate all that had happened, he didn't say all he saw to avoid smearing his wife's image. But like a man hopelessly in love, nothing soji said could get into him. The heart want what it wants. The only thing his heart want is his wife. In spite of all she did, he realized that letting her go would amount to a fulfillment of his nightmares. He drove slowly home in the evening, he was dizzy and weak. On getting home he realized a bigger shock. He never saw this one coming. He felt like he has been hit with a brick twice the size of his head right in the face. His wife of 14 years had actually packed out of their matrimonial home. A hurriedly written note on the shelf said it all.
He called her that night with tears in his eyes and pains in his heart. He barely believed the voice at the other end was that of his wife. She was cold. Despite her indiscretion, he thought she should be remorseful but she wasn't. He was too weak to fight so he pleaded with her to come back home but she refused. He even promised her he was ready to forget all that be saw. Her answer was as despicable as her disgraceful act. She told him he could come to see her at an apartment she had bought a year ago at Banana Island without his knowledge. She gave him the option of coming to see her if he wanted to. But she can't stay under his roof anymore. This was the final blow. For the first time in his life he realized he has lost. Lost to his nightmares. Now he realized the nightmares had been warnings. He should have listened. But he was too blinded by love. Now that the chips are down, it would only take a superhuman effort to start again.
When making decisions in life, especially about marriage we have to be very careful and avoid being blinded by love and lust. There are always salient messages written between the lines. Such messages and our instincts should never be ignored.
