Modern slavery and an epidemic pervades the world
36 million people around the world live in slavery
Those who said that the era of slavery and slavery has gone irreversibly, there are 2 million Pakistanis entered the era of modern slavery. The laws in force in the country were barred in 1990, but forced labor and slavery did not end with children working to help their families repay debts. In an open factory on the outskirts of Hyderabad, 144 km north of Karachi, a high chimney stands to emit harmful fumes. The children sit, lay the clay blocks in rectangular molds, and stack them in rows in preparation for placing them in the oven. This is the life Ranjan has lived since he was a child. He worked for decades in a brick kiln as a slave laborer.
He had borrowed money from the manager of the oven earlier, but he would not be able to repay the debt in any way, forcing him to continue working under these harsh conditions. Ranjan is the father of three children, he spent 40 years in this work. He works seven days a week in the coal oven. 1000 bricks earn him one dollar, and every cent of them goes to the employer to fill the debt. He borrowed $ 800 from the employer to buy food for his children. Ranjan says he is fully aware that he will not be able to repay his debt before he dies.
Union organizations founded but to no avail
According to a global survey released by an Australian campaign called "Walk Free Foundation," she said that Pakistan is the third country in which slavery is high. Most of them work in brick making, or farming. The organization said the government should reorganize the work in brick kilns and enforce laws against slavery. Trade unions are pressing employers to raise workers' wages in brick kilns to increase their wages to three dollars, not to encircle workers in the same debt circle.
A brick workers' union was founded several years ago, and the founder, Bono Bell, says the workers had no names before, but only called for numbers. If a person comes and asks them for their names, the answer is: "Ask the manager." They still have no right to mention their names. The union is still locked in a difficult battle with employers. Only a few of them accepted to raise wages for workers in brick ovens, but the union did not persuade any of them to free the bonded workers.
Slavery has been renewed in light of global economic changes
The Flemish organization estimates the freedom of the statistics of the world's 36 million people who are enslaved, forced to work under the threat of violence, free of charge and without the ability to liberate. This means that the number of slaves in our modern era exceeds the number that mankind has known throughout history. I found slavery for thousands of years. But changes in the economy, societies over 50 years have led to renewed slavery. And the reason for its renewal in the modern world: the dramatic increase in the number of people, especially in developing countries, and the social and economic changes that force many to migrate to urban places where exploitation takes place, as well as government corruption that does not question criminals. In this way millions have become vulnerable to exploitation of human traffickers.
We believe slavery is linked to the Roman rule, or to American farms in the eighteenth century. However, these people are forced to live as forced laborers, forced prostitutes, children in military service camps and forced marriages. The organization said that 162 countries each had numbers of slaves. But in some countries slavery may seem worse than others. Mauritania is the worst in terms of servitude and forced labor. Mauritanian law has tried to criminalize it. The figures estimate that 4% of the population in Mauritania is slavery.
Slaves of slavery rise in Haiti, India, and Pakistan
The figures also show that there are large numbers of slaves in Pakistan, India and Haiti. More than 1% of these citizens live in slavery. Slavery is spreading among Haitian children, where impoverished families send their children to serve wealthy families, where they spend their lives. The rate of slavery is 2.1%, with an average of one in every 48 people. 14 million people in India live in bondage.
Sub-Saharan Africa is also one of the countries where slavery is high at 0.7% of the population, or one of 140 people. Rates are also rising in Eastern Europe and South-East Asia, especially with sex trafficking, forcing both men and women into prostitution. Recently, world religious leaders signed a declaration pledging to eliminate slavery and trafficking in human beings by 2020.
