Players are no longer patriotic

in #blog4 years ago

Although it is painful to see my team not qualifying for the next phase of the competition, I am really not happy but truth be told, there is nothing I can do about that. I am so grateful for the success we have achieved over the years but I must admit that I am really disappointed by our poor form this year.

On my last post I know how I talked about our progress and the challenges that is ahead looming for us if we lost or fail to qualify for the upcoming Uefa champions league competition. Gone are those days where we have loyal team players. My mind flashed back to the days of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andre Iniesta, Xavi, Alex Puyo, Paul Scholes, Micheal Owen, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry etc. These players are so patrotic that all they could do is to support their team to the last. It doesn't happen like that this days, players are just after the trophy and the money, so they always make a move to team they thought can help them solve their needs.

With the rate at which players are no longer committed to clubs, you hardly sees them staying long in a team especially if the team is struggling or the team is not playing in top competitions. The old era player will stick to their club wether things are going smoothly or not but nowadays players will make or bid for move once they sees that their team is no longer doing well. This is really sad but truth be told, the players are not concerned about the impact.

Such act is really bad, the fun in soccer is dying off because of the fact that we no longer have patrotic players in place. This is the more reason while you hardly sees team building club around a single player. Take Lionel Messi as a case study, you can see that the entire team (Barcelona fc) is built around him. You can see how he grows from being a nobody to somebody in Barcelona fc. Now that the team built the team around him you can see that he always makes sure that he does his best when it comes to doing his duty.

With such privilege he now has the opportunity to contribute when it comes to decision making for the Barcelona fc team. Because of his impact in the team it is hard to see him not being told before making signings. This is the privilege players enjoys when team are been build around them.

Many players nowadays are just after money and they don't sees anything good in waiting for team to build their team around them any more, they are just after the money. This is where we have lost it and I sees it affecting this beautiful game someday.

There is one thing about the club building their team around you, they make sure that when you retires, you might have the chance to contribute more to the success of the team by being the team manager some day. Take Steven Gerrard of Liverpool fc as a case study. After building the team around him, he makes sure he served the team to the very last. When he departed, the team treats him nice and makes sure the love and support doesn't ends there. They went further up by making sure that he went to coaching school. This is because they are seeing him more than just being a player but a coach who can impact the Liverpool fc team someday.

Take a good look at Frank Lampard, he retires from Chelsea fc and he went on to becoming Chelsea fc coach. This was made possible because he was patrotic and the team was built around him. Sorry he lost his job because of his poor performance. But the bottom line is that he was patrotic by being committed to his team, this in return earns him the manager role at Stamford Bridge.

Same thing that happened to Frank Lampard is what will happen to Steven Gerrard except being sacked 😂😂😂. He will take over the role of Jurgen Klopp when he eventually departs Anfield or when he retires. There is no much deliberation, Steven Gerrard is going to be Liverpool fc next coach because of the fact that he contributed massively to the team's success. He truly deserves it, he is a legend.

Well, the era of patriotic players may not really be gone. What, IMO has changed is the available time to allow for building, given the fast paced nature of the game today.

Definitely, football some twenty years back cannot be compared to what it is now. Today, players and managers are not given as much time as they used to be given in times past.

Classical examples are Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger (OBE), both spending a combined over four decades at Manchester United and Arsenal respectively. Both were given enough time to build and see what they did.

However, football has grown more to become business and no one is patient to build. Everyone wants quick success.
