IMITATE THOSE WHO INHERIT THE PROMISES
11 AND WE DESIRE THAT EACH OF YOU SHOW THE SAME DILIGENCE to the full assurance of hope until the end,
12 THAT YOU DO NOT BECOME SLUGGISH [lazy], BUT IMITATE THOSE WHO THROUGH FAITH AND PATIENCE INHERIT THE PROMISES.”
Hebrews 6:11,12 (NKJV)
The Bible is given to us as the required standard to live our Christian life.
We are to learn through the Bible, how to follow and imitate those who walk with God and succeed in their walk with Him (Hebrews 6:12).
Things that are written in the Bible were written for our admonitions, that is, for our instructions and warnings (1 Corinthians 10:11).
They are meant to guide us as believers in Christ on how to live our lives to please God. In other words, to be a guide on how to walk with Him (Romans 15:4).
We are to learn from those who succeed in their walk with God, what made them succeed; and to also learn from those who failed, what made them fail; that we might not repeat their mistakes.
5 BUT WITH MOST OF THEM GOD WAS NOT WELL PLEASED, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
11 NOW ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENED TO THEM AS EXAMPLES, AND THEY WERE WRITTEN FOR OUR ADMONITION [instruction], UPON WHOM THE ENDS OF THE AGES HAVE COME.”
1 Corinthians 10:5,11 (NKJV)
We learn through the Bible by studying the lives of those who have walked with God, and those who are still walking with Him in our contemporary time.
Those who inherited God’s promises are worthy to be emulated (Hebrews 11:33).
• We Learn their faith and patience:
10 BUT YOU HAVE CAREFULLY FOLLOWED MY DOCTRINE, MANNER OF LIFE, PURPOSE, FAITH, LONG-SUFFERING, LOVE AND PERSEVERANCE, 11 PERSECUTIONS, AFFLICTIONS, WHICH HAPPENED TO ME AT ANTIOCH, AT ICONIUM, AT LUSTRA—WHAT PERSECUTIONS I ENDURED. AND OUT OF THEM ALL THE LORD DELIVERED ME" (2 Timothy 3:10,11 NKJV).
• We study their lives how they did it, how they walked with God.
You should understand that the Bible is not a story book, for it is given by inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
• It is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives (2 Timothy 3:16).
• It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16).
• God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).
16 ALL SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY INSPIRATION OF GOD, AND IS PROFITABLE FOR DOCTRINE, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION, FOR INSTRUCTION (TRAINING, DISCIPLINE) IN RIGHTEOUSNESS,
17 THAT THE MAN OF GOD [son or daughter of God] MAY BE COMPLETE, THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK.”
2 Timothy 3:16,17 (NKJV)
Today instead of people to receive the Word of God, the Bible, they prefer what will not help their faith.
We are at the time that people prefer to be given something that provides an easy or immediate way to fix a problem.
It could be a magic wand, or an object that will act as a talisman or charm to avert evil and bring good fortune.
They want to be given one special anointed oil, water, handkerchief, soap, and a number of other things being sold by many so-called ministers or prophets.
However, the Scripture is clear about it that in the last days the perilous times will come. It would be the time that deceptions would be preferred and embraced by the people instead of the truth (2 Timothy 3:1).
Thus, Timothy and other ministers are admonished:
2 PREACH THE WORD! BE READY IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON. CONVINCE, REBUKE, EXHORT, WITH ALL LONGSUFFERING AND TEACHING. 3 FOR THE TIME WILL COME WHEN THEY WILL NOT ENDURE SOUND DOCTRINE, BUT ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN DESIRES, BECAUSE THEY HAVE ITCHING EARS, THEY WILL HEAP UP FOR THEMSELVES TEACHERS; 4 AND THEY WILL TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH, AND BE TURNED ASIDE TO FABLES" (2 Timothy 2:2-4 NKJV).
The Bible is our melting point as believers in Christ, which everyone should come to terms with. Even if there are doctrinal differences, whatever the Bible says on a matter should be the final.
Thus, a believer's understanding of the Bible should be based on the truth shared in this piece, in which it is said we should learn from the lives of those who have walked with God; what made those who succeed do, and those who failed, what made them fail (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11,12; 2 Timothy 3:16)
You will not fail in Jesus name.
