Saturday a Few Boats on Popes Island

in #boats3 days ago

Today I will share a few shots of some commercial fishing boats I took on a walk on Popes Island here in New Bedford.
Pope's Island has a couple of marinas for personal watercraft, but it also has a few piers or berths, I guess for commercial fishing boats, and I find myself taking plenty of photos of them on my morning walks.
I am not sure why I find them so interesting. I have never been out on a commercial fishing boat, hardly even been on boats at all. I think if my memory serves me right, the only boats I have been on are various ferries around the world.

Well, thinking about it more, I did go on a cruise ship once, but not for a cruise, just to attend a friends wedding, and afterwards we got off the boat and the married couple headed off on a cruise.

I personally would love to do a cruise sometime, but my wife had a fear of being on boats. When she was young, she fell off a boat and it scared the heck out of her, so I can understand her fear of them now.

But as I often do I have waffled on and veered well off the subject, so let me try and get back on track.

As you know most of my walks are early morning around sunrise and as New Bedford is the highest value Fishing fleet port in the country, there are plenty of commercial boats to see, I know the biggest catch is scallops, so I presume a lot of these are scalloping boats, but honestly, I don't know which ones are.

Starting with these three ships, where I was lucky to catch a nice golden glow on the first one.
