The family of Jesus: Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you. Matthew 12:47

The Gospel of Matthew recounts that during his preaching in Galilee, Jesus' family closely followed what the divine teacher was doing. It is no coincidence that the Gospel of Luke says that when Jesus was born, his mother Mary treasured in her heart the things that happened within the family. Joseph and Mary, the parents of Jesus, were essentially the first devotees of the Lord.
But even as a child, when his parents, returning from Passover, lost him for several days and found him teaching in the temple, they understood that Jesus had another family—a spiritual family, not a physical one. In fact, when his parents reproached him for his absence while he was in the temple, Jesus replied: "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" Luke 2:49.
And this logic was repeated once again, and this time, Jesus, now an adult, referred to his true family. The Gospel of Matthew recounts that while Jesus was preaching in Galilee, someone approached him and said to the divine master: "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you" Matthew 12:47. And there Jesus taught about his true family, pointing with his hand to the people who surrounded him: "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" Matthew 12:49-50.
With this, Jesus did not despise his mother and brothers, but rather explained that he had a new family according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, because his mission was to preach the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of the divine perfections, to the simple and humble people, to change a world dominated by ignorance and sin. And this teaching of Jesus has a special depth, because in this sense, Jesus explained, as the sapiential books do with their wisdom, that those who live according to God's law, the spiritual gift of righteousness ("Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12), are family, the family of the Creator of all things. And this is so because of a truth: like seeks like. A family that would later transform into something more concrete with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the Church, which was born later with Pentecost.
