An introduction from a polymath #introduceyourself

Hi there. I have been wanting to introduce myself. But like an awkward circle of strangers at a networking event, I often find it hard to break in. I want to make the right first impression. I want to say something that resonates, that's accurate and that amazes people.

I often tell people there's really nothing interesting about me.

I often tell people I don't really have anything interesting to tell about me. I say things like "I don't have any stories," or "Who the hell would care about that?". Truth is, we all have stories. Like most people, I devalue myself and create a comfortable buffer zone between me and others. But it's not true. I have hundreds of stories–shocking, amazing, confusing and more. And I have just as many interests and talents. And I'm considering sharing them here, on Steemit.

WHY am I doing this?

So why do I want to use Steemit as an introductory space to tell more about myself than I ever have? I'm not exactly sure. I think one of the reasons is that I am in a great mental/emotional space right now. I'm currently traveling the world full-time and loving it (upvote and comment if you want me to post more about that). Another is that it seems like a good way to get rewarded for sharing and this is important to me because I don't tend to spend time on things that are not fulfilling and rewarding. One more reason is the feedback to be had here on Steemit. It's a pretty cool feeling to get someone to REALLY engage with posts and content. I value real interactions that have substance and the online space hasn't really translated well in this area yet.

In other words, I rock at a lot of things…

Since I've never made it a point to share my experiences, thoughts and stories in any consistent way, I figure this would be a good place to start and maybe it will work out. Maybe it won't. I'm not really sure, but I'm willing to give it a go.

Who Exactly Am I?

Let me give you a general overview of who I am. I'm a #polymath: a person who has many strong interests and well-developed skill sets in several areas. In other words, I rock at a lot of things; I like to learn about many things. I constantly research, inquire, deduct, and relish the knowledge that I acquire, and I'm consistently doing this. Do I talk about this much? Sometimes, but I try not to. Why? Because it can alienate people who are not like me.

I equate it to having a multiple personality disorder, but it's everyone else who has the disease.

So, if you have ever run into me in person, or seen something I've posted online, you likely think that I am a person of singular or few interests, and therefore, because people are more comfortable when they can clearly define and label things, I often get labeled as a 'this' or a 'that'. This is why, if you ask one person about me, you may get an answer such as "Oh, the artist? Yeah, she's totally does X artsy thing." But if you ask a second person about me you'd get a similar answer but different. I equate it to having a multiple personality disorder, but it's everyone else who has the disease.

The reality is much more like the title for this post. I am just as much a #business developer as I am a #technofile as I am a #singer. (FYI: it's extremely difficult for me to have business cards, unless they are folded rolls of paper. Also, why I don't usually write posts like this one.) Because I truly excel in many areas. I have talents in the #arts, in #startups, in #developing and #coding. I know #marketing, #filmmaking, #catering, #informationarchitecture, #mobileapps, #meditation, #travel, #spirituality, #corporatetraining and so much more. Want to know more? Check out my LinkedIn profile.

I also have stories of tragedy, desperation and hope.

I also have stories of tragedy, desperation and hope. I also see things in others and understand the human condition better than most. I have personally experienced some of the most difficult and confusing things. I have suffered #abuse and found #enlightenment. I have learned #coping skills, #lifehacks, how not to be #codependent, what it's like to live with and love a person who has #addiction, and so much more.

If I had to boil things down for you, I might say that I am a creative person with a huge background in #media and #business who has come through a huge amount of struggle. Someday, I might take some time to write a bit about my history. Or maybe you'll get glimpses into me through stories pieced together from the many interests I hold. I guess what it comes down to is that I'm open to suggestions, questions and thoughtful interactions.

So upvote and comment here on what you want to know more about. Ask me your questions about life, and I might be compelled to share my experience, knowledge and stories.

Nice post. Here's my upvote :).

Thanks, Valen.

Nice! Please do write more about traveling full-time. I myself set it as a goal - to start traveling full-time while working as software developer remotely so I'm trying to find as much relevant info as possible

That's awesome. Take a look at BackpackEntrepreneurs.com. Good info and nomad launch tools coming out soon!
