So what is dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a relatively new business model where the seller does not hold any stock of their own. Instead the seller will order products from the supplier and ship them directly to the customer. This business model lowers the barrier of entry for people wanting to start an e-commerce business with little to no upfront investment

Finding Suppliers

Most dropshipping websites today are using Aliexpress to find suppliers. Aliexpress is a website that allows people to purchase products directly from the supplier at a lower price than you would pay at retail. You can find pretty much anything on Aliexpress so you should have no problem finding products that you can sell.

Creating An E-Commerce Store

To start an e-commerce business you’re going to need a website. You don’t need to be a web developer in order to create one. We recommend that you use Shopify to create your website as it is extremely easy to use and doesn’t take much effort to create an attractive and functional e-commerce website. Shopify also comes with a free 14 day trial. This allows you to set up your store and ensure that it is profitable before spending any money on your website.
Shopify comes with many plugins that make it easier to run a dropshopping business. We recommend installing oberlo to handle the importing and ordering of products from Aliexpress even easier.

Which Products Will Sell?

Finding products is the easy part, how do you know that your product will sell? Well you don’t. What most dropshippers will do is to import several products into their store using oberlo and run paid traffic to their site hoping that one of those products will take off and become popular. While this can work, it also costs a lot initially to test the products with the market before finding one that works.

Getting traffic to your site

There are many ways you can get traffic to your site. Paid traffic will always perform better than free traffic but in my opinion it is best to utilize both.

Free traffic sources include:

  • SEO (Search engine optimisation)
    Make your site attractive to google to get ranked for certain keywords so when potential customers search for an item your website shows up in the search results

  • Blogging / Vlogging
    If you have an interest in the niche that your store is in you could set up a blog or vlog talking about the product and it’s benefits. Sharing your blog on social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram and youtube will help increase traffic and drive sales.

  • Commenting on forums, reddit and tumblr
    If you understand the niche that you are in you can get some free traffic by searching for questions related to your niche. Use this opportunity to help your potential customers and explain why your product would be of benefit to them.

Paid traffic sources include:

  • Facebook ads
    This is probably the best ad platform available to you right now. Facebook ads allows you to target people who are specifically interested in your niche or product. Facebook ads can be expensive to run but can yield great results if you take your time to learn how to utilize them correctly

  • Instagram Influencers
    This is not to be confused with instagram ads. You can use facebook's ad manager to create instagram ads also. Instagram influencers refers to large intagram accounts that have a lot of sway with the market that your in. When you are just getting started it is a good idea to contact some large instagram pages and ask them to do a sponsored post linking to a product in your store that you want to promote. Look for pages with around 100,000 followers to start off with and offer to pay them between $20 - $50 dollars. If it pays off then look for larger pages. But expect them to cost more!

  • Google Adwords
    Google adwords is a little different from facebook ads but it is also one of the best advertising platforms that you have access to.
