Preparations made from lily of the valley improve the tone of the heart and regulate its work. Medicines from lily of the valley grass have a calming effect on the central nervous system.

According to the effect on the human body, the lily of the valley is very similar to strophanthin. After intravenous administration, the effect of lily of the valley on the body begins within 3 minutes, and after another hour, the effect of the drug gains maximum strength and persists for a day.

In addition, medicines from lily of the valley are characterized by the absence of a cumulative effect (they are removed from the body after 3 days), as well as a sharp bradycardic effect on the human heart.

With oral administration of drugs from lily of the valley, their usual effectiveness is significantly reduced. There is only a sedative effect. In traditional medicine, the drug korglikon and tincture of lily of the valley are used for neurosis, cardiosclerosis, chronic and acute heart failure, heart defects. A flavonoid preparation called convaflavin is also made from this plant and is prescribed as a medicine for cholangitis or cholecystitis.

In alternative medicine, lily of the valley is used for wider purposes. The infusion of flowers of this plant is taken orally for diseases of the urinary and reproductive system as a diuretic, as well as for intestinal colic, gastric diseases and edema.

For the treatment of conjunctivitis, tincture of lily of the valley is used (1:10). An infusion of this plant is used as a medicine for heart diseases and sleeping pills. In a mixture with other medicinal herbs, such as motherwort, peppermint, medicinal valerian, blood red hawthorn, lemon balm, and lily of the valley, the usual ones are used for atherosclerosis, epilepsy, thyrotoxicosis, hypertension, insomnia, nervous disorders, heart diseases.
